This seems rather pointless all things considered. Do we really want to risk someone like Zach, Lauri, Wendell, or Coby (or anyone for that matter) playing in these games and tearing something and being out until next March?
I know the same could be said for the final month in any season for non-contenders, but with the 4+ month long layoff and players being out of their normal schedules, seems like we might be more at risk for injuries during this window. Then factoring in virus concerns...
Just doesn't seem worth it for these bottom teams.
*** EDIT ***
Found the article I read a few days ago that gave me the most pause when considering this idea.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/seandeveney/2020/06/30/he-predicted-post-lockout-injury-spike-in-2011-now-he-has-a-warning-for-the-nba/#63bd950b2a91In December of 2011, when ACL expert Dr. Tim Hewett was director of the Ohio State Sports Health & Performance Institute, he had a dire warning for NBA teams. Hewett had studied the impact that the NFL’s offseason lockout that year was having on injuries in the league and, with the NBA rushing back to action faster than the NFL after its lockout dragged into Thanksgiving weekend, he predicted ligament troubles ahead.
“I could see in the NBA in the range of 2, 3, 4 times higher rates of injury,” Hewett said at the time. “This could be a historic event.”
He was right. In the season-and-a-half that followed, the NBA saw 11 players go down with serious knee ligament injuries. The league had never experienced a two-year span that difficult for ACL injuries—in the previous year, the total number of ACL injuries was three.
Nine years later, the NBA is in a similar situation, rushing back to action in the so-called bubble atmosphere in Orlando at the end of next month. There will be 22 teams returning to finish the season and more than 300 players, all putting their bodies through an unfamiliar grind after three months away from organized NBA training.
It's an interesting debate. At this point the risk vs. rewards is an unknown, and none of us know how it would play out. But at this point I think I'd be in the camp wanting the guys to just prepare for next season, whenever it may be.
