I'd agree at this point UW probably didn't pursue much at this time as the timing doesn't work out well. I suppose if you knew he'd have to RS then you'd lose a bunch of Gs after next year and he could step in and have 3 years. It would probably cost them one of the two strong G recruits in the next two classes though. You could argue if that's worth it or not but UW usually doesn't play that game much. As said though, they were heavy on him out of HS and the first school to discover him, wonder the butterfly effect if he'd have just picked UW back then.

Good get for MU though, hopefully it works out and the kid overcomes his issues.

Carton is apparently talented enough to consider pro ball right now even though his season was not sparkling at OSU.

So I don't know if I'd consider a 3-year window (though a star can fade for a guy quickly) if he sat out a transfer year.

But that brings up the real question of "if" he has to pray to the waiver gods and "if" he has the magical excuse ready. If he does not...things could be different at Marquette when he becomes eligible and he might just say, "**** it, I'm going to try my hand in the G-League or hope I'm drafted on potential." And obviously the same would've applied with Wisconsin.

The most likely scenario is he plays this year (if we have it) at Marquette and then might just go pro but maybe I'm overrating him.

And as these things go, I saw some people bantering on Twitter when he stepped away from OSU...it feels slimy to just shoo away concerns of mental health, but with every one of these things it's hard not to be skeptical. A lot more people in the world than we know have "issues" as you say, but who knows if that is really why he stepped away from OSU.

Just a different situation in that Carton may have immediately been the best player in their backcourt (maybe?) but there is a bit of a logjam of very good players in said backcourt so I'm guessing not the best match.

I wonder if Carton will get immediate eligibility. I know he had attributed mental health issues to leaving, so whether those are valid or not (it sucks we have to speculate), I'm sure that will satisfy the magic waiver gods if the free transfer rule is not passed for '20-'21.

Clarifying to add UW pushed hard for him as a normal freshman recruit. Had no idea if there on him or not this time around.

Wow, you guys got a great player.

I liked him as a 1st rounder if he would have declared this year.

NCAA waiver process needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. It is so stupid.

No dig on MU/Carton. Good for them/him. The process is just obtuse, un-transparent (...opaque?), inconsistent, and all of that can directly impact the choices these guys make.

When does the NBA decide if they will allow high schoolers to enter again?

Good question. I know it's been discussed but I don't know if it needs to be part of the CBA (which expires summer of 2024 with a mutual opt out one year earlier).
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

  Of course he's eligible. The NCAA is a joke.

And I'm not trolling saying he shouldn't be eligible. He clearly should. Just more the Potter situation being idiotic.

Edit: I guess I should've read MiG's post before I wrote mine.

It bears repeating. Just wish the NCAA would **** listen.

Yea essentially the logic would be what that if Carton had stayed on campus to complete hs classes then he wouldn't be eligible (when comparing to Potter) but assuming he left right away then he's good to go. Think how little sense that makes in regards to supposed student athletes.

Good for him and MU, I'm all for it.

Marquette alum in the championship game on Tuesday, playing for $1 million, good to watch live basketball again.

Also good to see their bubble worked and the players made it through ok, on a smaller scale obviously

Would watch the Marquette TBT team over Marquette’s actual team all day every day. Been following these dudes for years, was classmates with some of them. Really hope they get that money tomorrow night.

Seemingly caught a break with the upset of Overseas. Has to make them the favorites. And Cancer's best player is the PG Keane, MU has great guys to defend him, especially Buycks. Hopefully they get this money after the close call last year.

Jamil Wilson & DJO absolutely balled out in this tournament. The Nets should give them a call.

Also how awesome for Diener to hit that game winner

TBF, I treat "Sideline" as an adjective in this case, filling the same role as "bone marrow" or "pancreatic."

Example: Jason Kidd is Sideline Cancer.

That was a lot of fun. Great group of players and amazing that it was old man diener to win it.
