I'd agree at this point UW probably didn't pursue much at this time as the timing doesn't work out well. I suppose if you knew he'd have to RS then you'd lose a bunch of Gs after next year and he could step in and have 3 years. It would probably cost them one of the two strong G recruits in the next two classes though. You could argue if that's worth it or not but UW usually doesn't play that game much. As said though, they were heavy on him out of HS and the first school to discover him, wonder the butterfly effect if he'd have just picked UW back then.
Good get for MU though, hopefully it works out and the kid overcomes his issues.
Carton is apparently talented enough to consider pro ball right now even though his season was not sparkling at OSU.
So I don't know if I'd consider a 3-year window (though a star can fade for a guy quickly) if he sat out a transfer year.
But that brings up the real question of "if" he has to pray to the waiver gods and "if" he has the magical excuse ready. If he does not...things could be different at Marquette when he becomes eligible and he might just say, "**** it, I'm going to try my hand in the G-League or hope I'm drafted on potential." And obviously the same would've applied with Wisconsin.
The most likely scenario is he plays this year (if we have it) at Marquette and then might just go pro but maybe I'm overrating him.
And as these things go, I saw some people bantering on Twitter when he stepped away from OSU...it feels slimy to just shoo away concerns of mental health, but with every one of these things it's hard not to be skeptical. A lot more people in the world than we know have "issues" as you say, but who knows if that is really why he stepped away from OSU.
