Is there his a playoff team

Post#1 » by Nbabrothers » Fri Jul 17, 2020 4:30 pm

According to the NYPost starting lineup of LaMelo Ball (point guard); RJ Barrett (shooting guard); Carmelo Anthony (small forward); Christian Wood (power forward) and Mitchell Robinson (center) coaches by Thibedou is a playoff team for next season. Thoughts? Is Christian Wood any good?
Also, the bench would be Frank Ntilikina (backup PG), Reggie Bullock (backup SG), Kevin Knox (backup SF), Julius Randle (backup PF) and Taj Gibson (backup C.

Maybe. I don’t like starting Wood and Anthony together though.

I dont like Melo as a SF. He is not so fast anymore to mark SFs.

I have doubts about Wood as a PF. He kill it this season playing most as a Center.

Randle would be less toxic as Backup Center.

Knox would be more usefull as Backup PF

Reserve team is awful with Frank, Bullock, Knox, Randle and Taj.

On second thought I now am pretty sure that’s not a playoff team unless RJ takes a big leap and Lamelo has a high impact rookie season. The fit is awkward between transition types (Mitch, RJ, Lamelo) and two kinda redundant half court guys (Melo and Wood). Not quite enough shooting either, you would potentially have three players who can’t shoot well enough and that’s a lot in today’s nba.

My team (35M Cap Space):
Starter: LaMello, Fred (Malik), RJ, Bertans (Grant/Wood), Mitch
Bench: Frank/Dennis, Ramsay (Bolmaro/Bane), Iggy, Knox, Randle

But I think Knox would lost his position to a defender PF in no time.

I’m cool with Wood at PF, Mitch at 5, RJ at 3, Lamelo at 1 and a 2 that can shoot. Now that would be a decent team to watch.

That team is awful. Literally 3 guys in that 10 man rotation play defense.

They're not her team playoffs.

Better
PG - Ball
SG - Someone who can shoot
SF - RJB
PF -Melo
C - Mitch

The team could even be a playoff team this season.

Next season we will have Nets with Durant, Wizards with Wall.

Atlanta should be strong with Trae, Collins and Capela. Hunter, Redish and Huerter are improving.

Chicago has good players and eventually could be a good team. Every year I say that and I regret saying.

"is this a playoff team" - that's my guess for title thread

That team, as posted, would be easy running for top 3 pick in the following draft.

Now, shift melo to PF, and insert Bullock or Frank to SG, and that team might sniff playoffs if the east is weak, as well as assuming a few things:

1. Lamelo comes in stronger and more ready than expected.
2. Frank can finally, consistently, hit the 3 at a decent clip
3. Rj takes a HUGE leap in his overall game
4. Melo accepts his role as a 3pt stretch PF only, on offense.
5. Mitch gets better at 1 on 1 defense and learns how not to foul as often as he does (although he seemed to get better towards the end of this past season).

We will also more than likely have 2 more draft picks on the team that we might consider giving minutes to.
