Game 65: Utah Jazz (41-23) vs New Orleans Pelicans (28-36)

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Wed Jul 29, 2020 3:59 pm

We haven't had a game thread in a long time.

Not sure who is playing and who is out on either team.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

We're back. I feel somewhat conflicted about the NBA bubble, but the basketball is definitely enjoyable to watch. Happy to have games back.

Just wait. If the Jazz lose, a common reaction would be, "I waited all this time for this?"

I'll probably be the first to post it... 8-)

Apparently, Zion hasn't yet played 5-on-5 in practice yet. He's just done some basic drills. His absence, plus the quarantine, means he didn't play for 2 weeks. He might not play many minutes against the Jazz (much to ESPN's chagrin).

While I am excited to watch some real Jazz basketball, my expectations are not too high.

Unlike previous years, seeding for this years playoffs isn't as important as it typically is, much more important for the matchup. Granted, I have no idea who they match up well against, but I think they are going to be pretty good and at least entertaining. So far, we know the final 8 games are scheduled, let's also wait to see if they even get to a playoff scenario. Not sure that will become a reality.

Seems like Zion is likely going to play limited minutes. I wonder if we'll get to see Brantley try to stay in front of him.

Our bench is getting murdered, but it looks like we are also bricking a ton of threes. If we were shooting just a bit better, it'd be a really close game (i.e. shooting over 30% from 3).

I can't watch the game yet (league pass blackout on national broadcasts) but I'm listening. Sounds like we just don't have quite enough offense on it? Obviously it is going to be bad defensively since we don't really have any positive defenders on the bench, other than kind of Tony Bradley, and Mudiay if he has a favorable matchup.

Mudiay and Niang couldn't hit a shot...... That was really the problem...... If either would have hit something it wouldn't have looked so bad......

On a positive note, I really like the way Royce is playing......

It was a fun comeback. Nice to a W when we shoot that poorly. The bench defense left a lot to be desired, but at the same time it was expected. Glad Rudy got some redemption with the winning FT's.

Great win. I was really nervous, at full strength, the Pelicans are seriously no joke, but I can't for the life of me understand the Zion situation. How is still getting heavier, instead of dropping weight? He had 4.5 months essentially were his options were basically limited to watch TV, play video games, read, eat, sleep, and... EXERCISE. Was it too difficult for this guy to prioritize the right things? Considering I'm just a fan, with a pretty normal income, and I have a damn personal trainer who also consults me on my nutrition, I imagine Zion has a team of experts and has probably been offered a personal chef or a free meal plan. I can't imagine how little the effort really needs to be on Zion's part given that his job is to play basketball, so he should basically be living in a gym and eating right.
