Re: 2020 NBA Draft prospects
I was team Vassel/Nesmith, but I've watched a bunch of highlights and film breakdowns of players over the last 24 hours... Anthony Edwards is the guy. He's got a game that will be much better on NBA floors with better spacing. Body control, finishing ability, can hit his free throws, can dribble and penetrate, and can pass. I think his shot looks good and will be better in his NBA role versus college.
I also listened to an interview of him breaking down his own tape. He's coachable and wants to learn and get better. He's a really good teammate too. I think once you optimize his shot selection he'll be a lot more efficient.
Edwards just screams all-star or borderline all-star to me. I think he'll at least be a D Lo level of player. It would be great to have an elite penetrator and secondary ball-handler playing alongside Beasley/D Lo/etc. who are great shooters and shotmakers, but maybe at times struggle to get to the rim.
I think Edwards is a really good player who's a top 3 pick in pretty much any draft and has a couple of elite skills that the Wolves really lack. That being said, I would do everything possible to get a Nesmith/Vassel/Bey using 17 + assets if you need to move up to get one of those guys.

Counting on 40/29 guy in college with 47.3 Efg to become an efficient NBA scorer is just way too much of a stretch of my imagination. I know he looks good in highlights and is an athletic specimen, but he's not a good basketball player.

That's not what I'm basing my opinion on. I just see a player with a skill set that translates like a glove to the NBA and fits much better than it does in college. There are reasons to critique Edwards and you're not explaining anything new. I think there are multiple explanatory reasons (not excuses) for some of the inconsistency. To me, those explanatory reasons seem correctable and projectable into something valuable at the next level.
Feel free to have a difference in opinion.

I"m not saying for sure that Edwards won't turn into an effective professional basketball player. I'm just saying at #1 overall I want to be certain of it.

There are question marks and reasons that you could argue against taking any of the top picks in this draft. If you suggest otherwise, you're not operating in good faith.

I personally think that Okongwu, Halliburton and Wiseman are almost bust proof. Sure we might wish that Okongwu shot a better threa and that Haliburton was more athletic, but I would have nearly zero concern that those aren't useful players. If everything works out perfect for Edwards he could be a star. If everything works out perfect for Haliburton he could be the next Nash. I would rather have Haliburton except we already have Russell. I don't like Edwards because we already have Beasley, Culver and Okogie. I think we should focus on an SF or a PF.

I agree out of anyone in this draft Ant Edwards has the biggest “future all star” quality about him. We can’t pass that up. He will probably have a strong ROY type season and if he shows Wiggins tendencies after a few seasons, you trade him for a star before you give him a max contract and has negative value. Wolves learned from that mistake.
With Cole Anthony falling maybe the wolves can get the top two guard recruits from this class. It would be a slam dunk draft getting two players that have the ability to be better pro players than they showed in 3-4 months of disappointing first college seasons.

Just trade him for a star huh? Sounds pretty easy

Re: 2020 NBA Draft prospects
Question.
Rosas has come out and said our system is:
1. Lead Guard that shoots- DLO
2-4. Interchangeable pieces that can move around.. Cutler is one
5. Anchor C that can space- KAT
It will be very interesting who we end up with. Will Rosas stay to his system or does this change things?

If Edwards can be our version of OKC Harden, then I would draft him. Re-sign Beasley to team friendly deal and make Edwards official 6th man.

There will be disgruntled stars (butler, etc) wanting out every year and a former number one pick/possible ROY is always a nice trade chip.

It’s early in the process. They’re all putting Edwards with us not because they think he’s the best player (most/all of the media draft analysts do not have him first), but because they think he’s the best fit out of that top three.
I remember when we won our last lotto, there were mocks with Okafor first because of Flip’s admiration of his game.
Hopefully we get workouts and interviews. These guys have had six months (for Ball and Wiseman more) to work on their games and bodies. In theory, one or two of these guys could have completely upped their game, which could certainly change who we pick.

Can Ayton run the floor like Wiseman? I picture Wiseman springy like KG or KAT while Aytons more traditional like Embiid.
Ayton is a gazelle. Running the floor might be his most elite skill.

Yeah you don't bring the #1 pick off the bench. If we draft Edwards I think you have to start him next to Russell from day one and pray for the best. He's got an NBA ready build so his physical development won't be an issue.

No, unless you want the Wolves to try and tank next year. It's rare a player is positive his rookie season.

No way is Edwards ready to surpass Beasley.

Re: 2020 NBA Draft prospects
The more I read and watch, the more I want Wiseman. I do think Edwards could be special, an all star level player. It's easy to get excited about a 2 guard with his potential and athleticism. However, Wiseman could be transcendent. Obviously, this is the frustrating part about limited tape. However, if his floor is a better free throw shooting DeAndre Jordan that is a huge get for us. If his middle is an engaged and good attitude Hassan Whiteside it is even better. And if he ends up being Anthony Davis/Joel Embid like, we are set for a long time. That is where I am at right now. Edwards is probably the sexier pick because everyone wants the next Jordan, Kobe, Harden etc...but that is a less likely development than Wiseman simply being at his floor or middle. What we lose by passing on Edwards and re-signing Beasley is much less than we lose by passing on Wiseman and signing????Juancho?
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
