2019-2020 College/Draft thread VIII (Knicks own #8 pick, 10/16 DRAFT) - Picking 8 who do you got???

Post#1 » by mpharris36 » Mon Aug 24, 2020 7:13 pm

New draft thread is up.

Lets assume for the sake of argument Edwards, Ball , Wiseman, and Deni are off the board (which seems like a consensus wont be there)

Who would you pick with the #8 pick if there were available?

Those stats about Kira are concerning.

Each time I read, I become more and more convinced that it's better to trade down and risk multiple picks. Its really a crapshoot.

Why is Coleslaw an option who’s out of our range but Precious isn’t an option when he’s in our range? You’re fired mpharris

Gun to my head ... Vassell

But I really like Nesmith if we trade down which I hope we do in order to get either another first round pick or move 27 up into the low teens.

Strick wrote:I’ve seen people mention the Magic are desperate for money and we have something like 5 million we would use to acquire a pick. They’re sitting at 15. How feasible would getting that pick for the cash, cash and 38, or cash and 27 be?

I would offer them 5.6M in cash + take on the Al Farouq Aminu contract to get #15 (without using #27)

also Philly at #21, they are well over the luxury tax (3.25 tax rate), by simply trading Mike Scott (5M in 2020/21) they'd save a lot of $ (if my math is correct):

including the cap hold for #21, Philly would be at ~149.6M, ~17M above the luxury tax.

by trading Scott (~5M) and #21 (2.4M cap hold), a combined 7.4M in outgoing salary, they'd move down 2 tax bracket's (from 3.25 to 1.75) because they'd go from being ~17M above the tax to ~9.6 above

in terms of $ saved for the 76ers:

before the trade, they'd pay: ~35.25M

after proposed trade: ~15.5M

so by trading Scott + #21 the 76ers would save ~20M (doesn't include potentially sending them the 5.6M cash via trade)

you guys are picky....I have a limited amount of spots to add to the poll....OO is pretty much a consensus top 10 pick...so I put him in there

I like nesmith i just haven't seen him mocked inside the top 10 much would be a trade down option IMO.

Voted Hayes.

Man, catching up on Onyeka again. He has the potential to be a beast. I dont know who would take him, but think he will be gone before us. Might be the best prospect in the draft. If he is there at #8, think I would have to take him and run. Plenty of time to see if he can work with Mitch.

what would you be cool with using to move up and what range would we have to move up to land him?

I have a hard time justifying giving up any assets when we only have a few. Also, I don't see that much of a difference between him or nesmith, Kira, or Vassell to justify giving up those assets.

Yup. If we stay put and he's there we almost have to. He can start with Mitch, especially since Mitch is gonna let it fly next year.

he's being mocked to DET at 7 (one spot away from us) a lot and a lot of people have him in and around the 10 range so I think its valid to have him there.

They will clog the paint together. We need solid outside shooting which I why I like Nesmith so much, just not at 8.
