Look I agree that these people have criminal backgrounds. However, once they have served their time. It should not be used as justification for the types of brutality we are repeatedly seeing. Once I held the view of blue halos for all law enforcement. That they are all good guys and can do no wrong. When I was dating my wife, she shared an apartment with her girlfriend. We walked into her apartment and her girlfriends' significant other lunges for a pistol on the kitchen table even though he knew us. This paranoid, trigger happy MF is a cop in Virginia. He is racist pile of shat too. I've read articles in the paper about him being let go from a police force for shooting a neighbors dog ... only to get a job on another police force.

These are the types of guys that are causing problems and yet they are held up as upstanding first-line responders. Jacob Blake, who was shot, was held accountable for his lifestyle by serving time. Can you say the same about the majority of bad cops? Especially when police have the unwritten rule about protecting each other against internal investigations. Until good cops, who are supposed to uphold all laws, choose to address the issue of bad cops, we are going to have this problem and hence the need for massive police and criminal justice reform.

I mean, Phoenix PD killed Ryan Whitaker for answering his door at night with his gun in hand because he didn't know who was knocking on his door at night. He was starting to kneel and had his hand up when he got shot. This happened a couple of months ago, but footage is circling the internet again.

Not to mention Ramon Lopez who was restrained on hot blacktop for 6 minutes earlier this month and was declared dead at the hospital. He stole a drink.

Punishment should fit the crime. And just think that Arizona as a state hasn't had someone receive capital punishment in over 6 years.

Makes you think if we have such rare circumstances for executing someone for their crimes, why do the law enforcement officers require such easy access to lethal force? I'm not even saying no cops should have guns. But should every cop really have a gun?

Nice post man!!

I think in answer to your last question, that's a reasonable thing to consider in a country with no guns, but given the accessibility of firearms in the US, its hard to argue that cops shouldn't carry them too.

(just my general opinion - i dont live in the US and know what its like there)

Question to you guys:

Police were called to the house via 911 by a lady who stated the guy wasn't supposed to be there, was getting car, kids, etc. They clarified he had a warrant and was a sex offender.

He wrested and fought cops, got tased and it didn't work, aggressively walked to door, and got in and reached for something, and had a knife.

I do blame both sides, and not sure why people cant see that. Cops should never have let him get to truck, but they tried. And he should never have opened the door and reach down. That is the riskiest thing you can do after fighting cops

I'm not saying you're necessarily pushing this All Lives Matter narrative (maybe you are, I dunno) but I really don't understand this and the All Lives Matter mindset. Isn't what BLM fighting for something where EVERYONE benefits? Don't we all want better policing, eliminating racial injustice and justice for wrongful killings at the hands of police?

Who is speaking up for that?

My argument is if you want change do it together, raise the issue together. Do not push one race agenda, we need each other.

If that was reality, it would probably be done by now. The problem is that nobody except for BLM has spoken up with the unified voice they have against racial injustice, wrongful killing and police brutality.

Someone on the GB brought up a good point but why did the NBA players not boycott when Travon Martin and Michael Brown were killed? Is it because it was the Democratic Party in power with presidency then?

If you really start looking into it, many people don’t care that Black people are being killed, their simply using the opportunity to push their favorite political party forward.

I think they just do more and more with each subsequent killing. Trayvon Martin was this..

It's amazing how big of a difference it would make if we just didn't have guns....I was about to post this before suns12345....but it's true.

Now I know it sounds easier to do than it would be...not only due to the pushback, but all the illegal guns out there, the police would not be able to properly defend themselves if someone else had guns (but how often to people shoot at cops?).

I'm going to put on my rose-colored glasses here. Organizations like the Greater Phoenix Leadership are just starting to gain traction on criminal justice and reform ... https://www.gplinc.org/news/greater-phoenix-leadership-condemns-racial-injustice/

GPL is comprised of the big-wigs (CEOs) in Phoenix and includes folks like Bidwell (Cardinals) and Rowley (Suns) ... https://www.gplinc.org/leadership/

I've directly spoken with some CEOs who are part of the GPL and they will go after politicians that hurt the Arizona economy. Especially after the nationwide debacles we had with Evan Mecham (MLK holiday cancellation and Super Bowl pullout) and SB-1070. By going after I mean, the GPL will endorse and fund other candidates who are more in line with their priorities regardless of party. My understanding is this group was very engaged in the defeat of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Until recently, GPL's priority is pro-business and Arizona's education system. They recognize that Arizona being one the worst spenders on public education hurts business opportunities in the State. The hope is that GPL really does get after the state and local politicians to make changes that are good for the State in terms of race and policing ... https://www.gplinc.org/achievements/

Just to put some numbers to the discussion, cops kill approximately 1,000 people a year, at the same time about 200 cops die on the job, of those 200, about 100 are suicides, and 50 are traffic accidents (no seatbelts), with only about 50 being shot by someone else. So for every cop shot and killed in the line of duty, 20 civilians are killed. It is twice as likely for a cop to commit suicide than for them to be killed on the street, and just as likely for them to die due to not wearing a seatbelt.

I basically have no fear of anyone pulling up on me or the police for that matter living in Australia. Not to say people getting shot by police doesn't happen or that people getting killed in police custody doesn't happen but man is that rare and that fear that there's officers out there with itchy, fearful trigger fingers and always ready to pull out their service weapon at the first sight of danger or "fear" is really not in minds of the people or even criminals dare I say.

I'm just going to plead ignorance being someone from the other side of the globe, but while I always knew police brutality and wrongful killing were just....a "feature" of America. It really wasn't raised to the level of consciousness on my side of the world until this past decade or so when the BLM picked up steam and names like Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice became international headlines because their profiles were raised by protests. BLM is no longer a local or national movement, it's recognised around the world and it paints America in a bad light and now it's on America to clean up

Yeah, mental health is important too. I don't know what you are trying to say with your numbers, but just because more die from one scenario doesn't make deaths resulting from another scenario no big deal. They should defininitely be wearing their seatbelt though.

I don't know if those 20 civilians killed per cop are all gun deaths too but it would be nice to wipe out all these gun deaths.

While gun culture in Australia wasn't as ingrained as the US, people don't realise that when it was done in Australia it wasn't an easy task, but luckily after a mass shooting at port arthur (and a few prior to that) we had a leader who just said, "whatever the public backlash, this is what needs to be done" and he did it.

Now, everyone would acknowledge the US is more complicated for many reasons, but at some point all of the gun issues has to reach a tipping point where something has to be done.

Worth reading about the port arthur shooting and subsequent gun prohibition if you're interested. Here is just a little bit from Wikipedia...
The Port Arthur massacre took place in 1996 when the gunman opened fire on shop owners and tourists with two semi-automatic rifles that left 35 people dead and 23 wounded. This mass killing horrified the Australian public and transformed gun control legislation in Australia.

Prime Minister John Howard pressured the states to adopt the gun law proposals made in a report of the 1988 National Committee on Violence as the National Firearms Agreement,[39] resulting in the non-binding National Firearms Agreement (NFA) between the Commonwealth and the States & Territories as the Constitution of Australia does not give the Commonwealth direct power to enact gun laws. In the face of some state resistance, Howard threatened to hold a nationwide referendum to alter the Constitution of Australia to give the Commonwealth constitutional power over guns.[40] The National Firearms Agreement included a ban on all semi-automatic rifles and all semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns, and a system of licensing and ownership controls.

I’ve always thought this too. I’m not sure there’s another country in the world that comes even close to the amount of citizens (per capita of course) owning firearms.

I don’t know if this alone would stop police killings but it sure would reduce these massacres at schools, malls, theaters etc. Perhaps it helps with police shootings too.

Lebron is such a coward. So you are telling me that in the one night, the owners agreed to do more? What does that even mean? What are they going to do?

My take is that if Black Lives Mattered to them. They would do more than post nonsense. Start a Non-profit with all your NBA players/friends that will help with Legal Fees on wrongfully convicted, police brutality cases, etc. Instead of saying you are scared to get killed and shot, educate your followers on your platform to comply with the officers, and reach out to your nonprofit that will help you out.

All they are saying is vote, vote, vote. Truth is I guarantee they cannot tell me a policy that Biden has that would fix all this. I have asked many friends on that. Said I am on the fence of voting. Give me reasoning, and you may swing my vote.

What policies does biden have that would end police violence, racism, coronavirus, etc. Nobody has an answer. Just be honest and say you want trump out, and that's the only reason

No one has an answer? There's bullet pointed policy ideas spelled on this website that took like 5 seconds of a google search to find. And if you want to talk about lack of policy, Trumps been in office for 4 years and still doesn't have a health policy and just had a convention where I don't think he mentioned one policy idea he just whined that people treat him unfairly and pulled his same old tired tropes of blaming everyone for everything.

A crazy right wing 17 year old litteraly just murdered 2 people in Kenosha. When Obama was president the tea party started and Republicans did everything in their power to obstuct.

And to you're point on Biden getting things done, we don't have kings in this country so it takes the whole government for action. You're original question was if Biden had a plan and claiming 'no one knows'. My guess is you're just being obtuse.

Anyway that's my rant for the day, I typically avoid this kind of stuff on the internet because it's pointless and no one actually changes their views.

The fact that you would even consider swinging your vote should tell you that you think there may be something wrong with Trump. You need to take a long, long hard look at his negatives. Here are some to think about ...

1) The man is morally bankrupt ... a liar, cheater, womanizer, draft dodger.
2) He is the "Great Divider" ... he does nothing to unite our country.
3) He only adheres to the U.S. Constitution when it suits his personal agenda ... he has trampled our Constitution.
4) He is a failure as a businessman ... I know many, many businessmen who despise his use of bankruptcy to cheat people and other companies so that he does not have to pay them his full debt.
5) He is a fake religious follower of Christianity and only uses it to push his agenda.
6) He is the poster child for megalomaniacs ... this man has serious mental flaws and is power tripping.
7) He has gone through so, so many cabinet members and West Wing personnel. Never have I seen this with any President. Why?
8) So many respected Republicans who have worked in his inner circle have left and written books about his problems and the danger he presents to our Country. Why?
9) He is a nepotist ... loading the White House and Cabinet members with family and close friends. This is an immense danger to our Democracy and has not been done by previous administrations.
10) He disparages the media calling it fake news unless they write or present him in a glowing manner. It doesn't matter if its Fox or CNN. He whines if they say or do anything negative and praises them if they do anything positive for him. Again trampling the U.S. Constitution amendment for a free press.

These are just a very few examples of why this man is unfit to serve as the President. And so you know I am a native Arizonian and lifelong Republican.

I said swing vote because I want all the Biden idiots to prove to me that they have zero clue about his policies and just voting to get trump out. Just be honest and say that's the reason, because not one person has had a good argument on why biden. That includes about 4000 people on IG, FB, etc.

Biden has you blinded. 47 years and 8 years as VP and he did nothing, now he has all you thinking he will save the world. :banghead:

It's almost like you're supposed to compare the people you vote for or something? Also, I'm curious if you feel the same way about all the Trump voters that exclusively voted for him because they hated Hillary in 2016 lol? Are you incapable of recognizing hypocrisy, or just self-serving?

No one acts like Biden is a world saving candidate, but he's not the **** conman you'd like to keep in office.
