To be honest.. although i was 18 that time, from getting a meniscus tear to back on the court took me only less than 8 months.

JI is not that far removed from 18 lol....plus he has the luxury of having the best treatment money can buy so as long as he follows whatever the doctors tell him and everything goes well in his evaluations during the rehab there is no reason why he can't come back strong....hey i hope he heals very well and can come back in 8-9 months instead of 10-12+

I would be flat out shocked if Isaac stepped on a basketball court for us before 2022.

You think it’s going to take him 14/15 months to get back on the court? I would actually expect him back for the 2021-2022 season start. I’m sure the 2020-2021 season is a wash for him.
Edit: I meant 16 months, which would put us in 2022.

I think with Isaacs's injury history and his body clearly still not being ready for the NBA, they are going to take the Porzingis route with him. Porzingis didn't even play a game of 5 vs. 5 until 13 months after his ACL surgery.
I expect a long-drawn-out rehab and for them to try and change some of his movements/habits which have made him more prone to injury (euro step).
I obviously hope to see him sooner but knowing this FO, and his history, I would highly doubt it.

Assuming the NBA goes back to the traditional October to June schedule, we're right at 14.5 months from opening night of the 2021-2022 season.
I would be surprised, even if they go conservative with his rehab, if Isaac isn't able to play by then. That's a very long time to rehab an injury.

Porzingis return took 14 months as well. Ofc he probably could play month-or so sooner, but games didn't start until season started.

He'll be back in 2021. He'll likely miss most of the '20-'21 season, but he should be back for '21-'22.

He'll miss whole 2020-21... Scheduled start of new season is at December 1st , 2020. Witch is 4 months from now. 2020-2021 season ends in June. 10 months from today.

Yeah, I think 14/15 months sounds about right. That was the Porzingis timeline. I was really just pushing back on the idea that he would be ready in 8-10. Saying I couldn't see him until 2022 is a bit hyperbolic.

Re: Woj: Isaac has torn ACL
If there is a silver lining it would be JI has the time now to really rebuild from the ground up....improve his body.....as he heals and is able to hit the court again do some light skill work but things like this would be much later in the recovery process....i just really hopes he gets with a dr or a specialist that will work with him in terms of biomechanics that is going to help a lot.....i remember reading something where Vince Carter said he wished he was able to get with such a specialist earlier in his career
This is in reference to porzingis
of course this isn't apples to apples
This is in reference to porzingis
Dr. Laith M. Jazrawi, chief of sports medicine at NYU’s Langone Medical Center, said it’s “not unreasonable” Porzingis could be back in seven months but believes the Knicks will be more conservative to give the quadriceps muscles extra time to strengthen and prevent a recurrence.
“If next year is not the year to be the champs, they’ll want him 110 percent before he’s back to playing, and there’s also a lot of mental stuff,” Dr. Jazrawi told The Post. “The Knicks may not feel it’s worth it. It gives him a longer time to develop more muscle tone to protect him in the future. In that sense, there’s no rush to get back in seven months — nine to 10 months is better. Sometimes it’s physician-specific, and they like to have more graft maturity.”
Taking 12 months — as done by Jabari Parker — would seem unnecessary if Porzingis passes quad-strength tests, according to Jazrawi.
“Anything more than a year, they’re not hitting their time marks,’’ Jazrawi said. “Jabari’s was revision surgery, which tends to delay them longer.”
of course this isn't apples to apples

This is assuming next season actually starts on December 1, which I'm dubious to. I think it gets pushed back to January 2021 or Spring 2021, which would actually allow the more games to be played with fans in attendance. I'm optimistic for a vaccine to be available by the end of the year. Allowing a few months for the world to get vaccinated would make spring a safer time to play games with fans.
I actually think all sports, including NCAA and NFL and MLB, should just push everything back to spring.

Re: Woj: Isaac has torn ACL
Same with me. I PERSONALLY don't think we will start "officially" this year unless by some miracle there is a sure-fire vaccine that comes out by November. Even then.. conservative thinking in me says we start by January.
So by that logic, regular season has around 8months right? What are the rules for a player again? Can JI just immediately play in the plat offs ( assuming we get in ) around August/September next year?
That is the fastest most optimistic thinking I have of his injury rehab.

That's a good point and Dallas gave him the max. Hopefully we can stay near the 10m range with Isaac.pepe1991 wrote:Knightro wrote:PrimeThyme wrote:I think with Isaacs's injury history and his body clearly still not being ready for the NBA, they are going to take the Porzingis route with him. Re: Woj: Isaac has torn ACL
The NBA has been talking about sliding the schedule to start later and run through summer, ending in August/September. That would allow them to fill a big gap in sports over the summer. I think we see the league use this as a chance to trial it for the 2020-21 season.
I really don't understand the optimism for Isaac's return at this point. Just feels like setting yourself up for disappointment. His injured knee might come back stronger, but he has another knee and two ankles that could become the next problem. The kid just isn't built to be durable, imo.

Would that create some tehniqual problems? Like, this is 2019- 2020 season. But next season would not be 2020-21 but 2021-2021 season?
Also long term TV rating over summer usually suck because people are on vacations, this summer is bit different because of pandemic situation, but normally, tv shows and sports don't go over summer mainly because of less interest from fans. Olympic games and soccer world cup being expetations due only being around once every 4 years.
Not to mention long term issues with schedule overlapping with Olympic games, basketball World cup, Eurobasket....
Next year Olympic games start at July 23rd.
Apart from some COVID 19 related problems with schedule, i highly doubt Isaac will return until later 2021 or 2022.

The 'original' lockout season (50 games), which kicked off in February 1999, is still referred to as the 1998-99 season... So probably not.
I always chuckle when I see youtubers (or even sometimes analysts on ESPN) talk about a player during that season, and they will often say something like "Penny Hardaway had an injury plagued year in '98-99 as he only played 50 games" Without actually doing any in depth research to realise the season only had 50 games.

No surprise on this news, but good to get it out now to dampen fan expectations:
Magic president Jeff Weltman' specific quote was, "(we) will not have Jonathan Isaac next season."

Meniscus ( MCL) and , anterior cruciatum ligament ( ACL) tears are not same.
MCL is far easier to repair and can litrally be removed.
I had my meniscus issue in same time one of guys i knew from gym tore his ACL, even on first sight you can see how much more painful and awful ACL injury is.
