Nah he’s not trash, no point in selling low. Don’t play him in the Lebron role and he’ll do much better.

Teams are 100% going to be looking to offload payroll for next season, even if the cap is artificially inflated.

There are not many teams with cap space that would be able to take on a massive salary or simply swap it for a lesser contract.

Knicks are going to be armed with $40mil in space plus Randles contract.

Scenarios where you can save a team $5 to $10 to even $20million a year is where the Knicks are going to be able to take advantage.

Some of the proposals in this thread were based on teams saving $10mil a year in swapping their bigger contract for a lesser one.

There are some instances where those deals will make sense for NY from either a) an assets standpoint b) a fit standpoint or c) both.

Trick is to finding C.

I know Aller is all over this

Nah they think Knicks are a charity organisation for other teams, and that Randle is trash, hence no need to get anything back.

Now...once again...we have a new FO... another new HC/staff... expected to be a bit of roster turnover... economic uncertainty. What direction are we going?

As for trading Randle...what teams would he fit on? More importantly...what does the market actually look like in the covid era? I'm certain many teams are going to be looking to spend wisely going forward. Some may look to shed salary. I can't realistically see how to make any moves until we get an idea of when/if/how the NBA has a season after the playoff bubble ends. This will not be like any other off season. FA...draft...trades...will all be impacted by the loss of revenue already happening and how they make profits/pay bills moving forward.
Pretty much.

Just be careful though. If you dont want to burn Randle at the stake they are going to accuse you of liking him.

That is one of the few deals that could make sense and Jordan is kinda clueless. It would be nice to get pick #32 from them too.

Otherwise, just make Randle backup C behind Mitch. Think he can be ok in that role.

I thought this too, but Batum is on his last year like Randle, no?

What's in it for Charlotte? Not cap relief.

Charlotte actually needs an offensive centric front court player. PJ Washington (a beefy small forwards) and Bismack Biyombo were there starting front court. Biyombo can only dunk and Washington is best suited as a 6th man combo forward than a starting PF. Their backups? A raw Jalen McDaniels and Willy Hernangomez who hasn't improved a lick since leaving NY. Randle by himself can probably outscore their entire front court rotation on many nights (Randle will actually have better PGs in Graham and Rozier to get him the ball in better situations instead of having to need him to channel his inner Lebron James like he had to in NY).

Ideal ideal for Charlotte? Obviously not...but they aren't exactly a choice FA destination right now either and they have little assets to trade for a better option. Randle would be a better fit in Charlotte than he was in NY. Would be more like what was going on in NO when AD was out than what happened last season in NY. If Rose simply offer Randle for basically a doorstop (what Batum is)...assuming contracts equal...Charlotte would take that in a second. Not only would they get an instant starter that addresses their biggest weakness but would allow them to get rid if a guy that is pretty much unneeded given half the Hornets team is made up of small forwards.

The Knicks? Batum physically is toast so what they get is they get rid of Randle. Thats about it. For the Hornets? They get a whole lot more. If this is all the Knicks get they might as well just cut Randle than simply just help out MJ and the Hornets.

Nostradamus over here

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29739338/sources-nba-players-union-agree-2nd-push-back-window-preserving-cba-termination-rights

In an ordinary year, the NBA and NBPA calculate the new salary cap between the end of the draft and the start of free agency. This year, the league is addressing the urgency of teams to have those new cap and luxury tax figures before the draft because it dramatically influences how teams approach decisions -- including trades and the buying and selling of picks.

The financial realities of the league's revenues cratering without fans in arenas would have a dramatic impact on teams, especially smaller-market franchises dependent on gate receipts and revenue sharing from big markets such as Los Angeles, New York and Golden State. In a scenario where gate receipts are gone -- or dramatically limited -- big-market teams will be limited in the money they can share with those in smaller cities.

Among worst-case scenarios, some small-market teams tell ESPN that they fear they could lose north of $20 million in revenue sharing next season. Those sorts of projections affect competitive balance and are the models that the NBA and NBPA would want to sidestep in these CBA discussions.

For instance, the CBA has a projected 2020-21 salary cap of $115 million, with a luxury-tax threshold of $139 million. Amid the loss of revenue streams, some teams fear that the cap and tax could fall as far as $25 million to $30 million. Without the NBA and NBPA negotiating a new mechanism for the cap, the league could be facing 25 of its 30 teams stuck in luxury-tax payments based on projected payrolls -- something that would chill free agency and limit many organizations' ability to operate in a normal manner in the marketplace.

Capital and cap flexibility is King right now. We have both

the question for me is will we use it...will we be creative enough...I hope so...

What's the deal for the Knicks, if Charlotte was suddenly enamored with The Spinning Top?
I don't think they'd be parting with #3 for #8 there, do you?

I mean, that would be great if possible. It would have to mean that Charlotte values Randle plus whoever might be at 8 more than carrying the carcass of Batum for another year plus the #3 pick.

Theoretically I guess it could happen, as the draft talent isn't THAT far apart, but even if all the players 3-8 were pretty even (not sure if true), they lose their first choice at "the best of the rest" in the draft, if it's a given that Edwards and Ball should go #1 and #1 (also, not sure if true)

Are we talking a future pick here? Might be worth it.

Yeah I think there is a chance of doing something with Charlotte. Would they do an 3 and Batum swap for 8 and Randle? Hard to say. But I think folks are undervaluing Randle a little. Is Wiseman or Okongwu and a deadweight like Batum better for them than a 25 year old Randle and a Devin Vassell?

So we should give up a first round pick or another asset for the right to get rid of him a year early? He can just sit on the bench if it gets that bad, though even terrible fits can serve a purpose based on matchups on a nightly basis. It's not worth it. It's not that urgent.

I would easily give up some combination of the 38th pick, knox, DSJ if it meant Randle would be shipped out of town. Honestly the 27th pick would be on the table as well. The guy is cancerous.

While Randle may be “cancerous”, any combo of those assets to get rid of him would be even more disastrous to our future. We are SO much better off waiting until the next trade deadline, when he will be an expiring deal and have value. We aren’t winning anything fast in the next two years, why would we give up actual assets that took seasons to accumulate to get rid of some cap space ? Are we signing KD and Kyrie again, FFS.

I'll give them, Randle + 27 and the 38th in this year's draft for Love +5. That's the deal I'd be willing to due. Love is owed over 90M over the next 3 years and can't stay healthy. I'm not willing to swap 1st rd picks to take on Love's contract

I love your idea. Will CLE budge though is the question? I'd love to add 5th pick. Two picks in the top 10 is exactly what we need with Leon and CO. running the helm.

If you really think about it, Julius Randle's contract is not crazy. It's not bad at all for a no.2 guy.

19 million for a 19 and 10 player at the age of 25/26?

I think the Jazz might do it to ship Conley out and we absorb that contract, plus their 23rd pick. We seem to have a decent relationship with the team, due to the new FO having multiple members of their FO. They could definitely put Randle as a sixth man, and save money.

Regardless if the Knicks draft a PG or not, Conley would likely be the starting PG next year, and can play Thibs systems. Also pick #23 and #27 might be enough to move up to right outside the lottery.

Some of these posts make me chuckle. You guys realize other teams scout the Knicks and know how much of a black hole Randle is right? CP3 and assets for Randle lol. CP3 who still makes every clutch shot and still makes everyone around him better while Randle makes everyone around him worse as he misses layups.

Nah a Randle or Toppin fan, but it's not mindboggling.

Randle has two avenues to become a useful player:
1) git gud on offense...really good, good enough to be at least an all star second or first option.
2) git gud on defense and three...balance out his contributions.

I'm worried about Toppin cause of age, defense, rebounding concerns, defensive IQ. However, if a fan truly believes that Toppin can be an offensive star, then it's understandable. He also has the benefit for being a lotto wildcard and a cheaper contract. The difference for Randle is that his body of work has revealed that he's a negative player. Otherwise, he'd be actually playing in the Bubble right now for a contender.

Return to New York Knicks
