76ers 'Seriously Debate Idea' Of Chris Paul Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Sep 9, 2020 5:58 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers have "seriously debated the idea of chasing" a trade for Chris Paul, league sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

The 76ers have lacked a point guard for several seasons and finally have appeared to signal they want Ben Simmons to play power forward.

Paul has two seasons remaining on his current contract at $41.4 million and $44.2 million.

The Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks could also pursue a trade for Paul.

Tobias Harris and two future 1sts, one heavily protected. Sounds good.

the trade would go through.
but my money is on the belief that Embiid, Simmons, CP3 won't make it through a playoff series without one of them having a season-ending injury.

CP3 wanted to get paid, and he did. And because of it, a title-contender can't afford him, and thus slim chances he'll be in the finals as a contributor.

Man I love CP3 but if we are gonna trade him, I'd rather take Tobias and a couple firsts then whatever Milwaukee can offer. Tobias can take over the 3 or 4 since Gallo will probably be leaving. But I doubt there will be heavy protections on any picks. Once again the Thunder are in a position where they don't HAVE to trade anyone, so if the Sixers or someone else want CP3 they're gonna have to play Presti's way. Plus Tobias is a pretty bad contract and its several years longer than Paul's.

That can fly, but I prefer Mike Conley who is cheaper and has more fuel left in the tank.

If Jimmy Butler didn't like Simmons and Embiid, Chris Paul would eat them alive

assuming that the thunder are looking to cut costs, can the sixers really afford to take on MORE salary? ben simmons starts his new contract next season

Plus, there's no reason to assume Paul and Butler would share views.

So this has to be Paul's agent floating this, right? Because as incompetent as the Sixers FO is... what is the benefit to them leaking this out there?

Aha... and Jo has the same agent as CP3. It all comes together.

The Thunder save ~6M if they take Harris for Paul. The number balloons to ~14M if it's Horford. So one of them will be going out should a deal happen. Adams, Harris, and SGA could take a run at the 8th seed, too, which is good for Shai's development.

Butler didn’t like Wiggins and Towns, he was actually extremely close to Embiid.

If I were the Thunder I'd want more to take on that contract. I'd be more inclined to trade Paul for expirings.

I don't see the Thunder getting both expirings and picks for CP3.

They will either be eating a lot of money or getting useless expirings. I also think Paul will have something to say about where he goes.
