Not every effective PG is quick. Mark Jackson wore lead boots, but he was effective, though he was a very physical guy who bodied his defenders.

Frank's issues were less about speed or quickness and more about decisiveness. When he doesn't hesitate he gets to the rack just like any other good penetrator.

And his hard work on his handle started to pay off as he began to show an ability to navigate to wherever he wanted on the floor which is one of the primary abilities you need in a point.

Frank is quite competent at the PnR. Our coaching most of his time here has not been competent and under-utilized the PnR.

Frank is big. He can see the floor.

I think he can handle the PG position if you commit to him. He's just one of those guys whose potential was going to take time and he was handled like garbage by the Knicks so far and he didn't crack. His confidence wavered a lot, but he hung in there and starting showing signs last season. I think he is a player that will continue to progress and reward patience.

Mark Jackson played in a different era. I can’t think of too many current nba points as slow as Frank if any.

Kyle Lowry says hello.

Not really, frank is much bigger also. He is an asset to a good team with a scorer. Lets hope rjs jumper improves enough to where he hits mid 30s in his threes( he hit 32% (compared to shootinf 30% in a shorter college line) his first year so lets hope he improves). If frank could just get his % to 34....

Y'all bugging Frank is way slower than Kyle Lowry. Lowry can boost his speed when he needs to. He has a gear.

I think we all agree by now that, barring a miracle, DSJ needs to go somehow/someway. Even if we draft Hayes or Kira, Frank should still start and the rookie can lead the second unit. If we don't draft a PG, then Frank definitely should start.

Why not? And, if not, who should?

Yeah I saw this a little while ago. He looks great. Looks like he bulked up and got more cut. The moves are great. He's just now got to actually do that in game. I think he can but for some reason (his mild manneredness?) he doesn't. Let's hope that Thibs likely trusting him a lot more on account of his defense will give him more room on offense so he doesn't have to worry about and over think things offensively. See an opening, put the ball down and go. He's got long enough legs that he should be king of the eurostep. Not rocket science.

Yeah one of Frank's weaknesses is that he's not the quickest guy end to end especially on the offensive end. It's weird. He moves great side to side but doesn't seem to be the same going up and down.

j4remi wrote:I think a swiss army knife role is perfect for where he's at in development. He could back up the 1 and 2 consistently, spot start if needed, play small ball SF for spells...his defense is always going to be a value added and he'll generally be able to give you a bit of what you need on offense assuming he's not asked to take on too big a role.

The value of Frank right now is in the flexibility he affords you with the bench you build and the upside he still offers as a 22 year old younger than some would-be draft picks. He's a late bloomer by NBA years but in age, he's still years away from his prime. I don't think you'll get that kind of flexibility or maneuverability back in a trade scenario.

This is just so spot on.

Thibs loves defensive guys so he's definitely going to get big minutes. I definitely can envision a Marcus Smart type role for him. 3rd guard, 2nd ball handler, defensive specialist.

I always try to see positives in young players but I really cant see that with Frank. He doesn’t even deserve the backup pg position and there plenty of backup of who are much better.

Not going to lie, after reading and seeing how much he improved physically and how jacked he’s becoming, it makes me more hyped to see him play under a proper coach. Also the development aspect of it intrigues me too. Having Bryant who developed Mitchell and Lillard make this upcoming year crucial to his development and will let us know what we really have in him

No hes not, Lowry is just way more skilled and confident because of that skill. With Frank its also that he overthinks every play and is overreliant on hesitation dribbles while he scans the floor. When he's been aggressive he can get by people just fine and can show some hidden athleticism as well. Its all in his head. Going into yr 4 though, you better have figured that out.

Go watch Lowry again in these playoffs and last season. The man has an extra gear a burst that Frank does not have. Frank is definitely slower. It's funny fans keep saying wait till next season, we have to accept what Frank is.

I believe he can fill a need on the team. If he had no value teams like the Warriors would not be asking about him. With the Knicks he has not had proper development and no stability. He has had a completely different coaching staff each year he has been with Knicks. I say just give him the keys to the team and let’s see what he can do.

Gear? :D
Lowry is fast compared to Frank when dribbling yes, but I bet on a straight run, no ball, Frank will dust him. Lowry is one of the most slickest player in the league, think Sam Cassell.
He's smart as fk, has guile and basketball IQ is in the stratosphere.
But will not outrun 80% of the guards in the league.

As an aside, while I absolutely still think the Knicks will bring in at least one point guard to be a part of the rotation before next season, I think I’ve also underestimated what they think of their current crop. Frank Ntilikina, I’m told, is currently penciled in as the starter, although that can - and if I had to guess probably will - change once they tinker with the roster. I’m also told that reports of Thibs’ continued belief in DSJ are absolutely legit. How much faith does he have, and how willing is he to put New York’s fate in someone who was quite awful last season? Your guess is as good as mine.
