Also...

The draft has been moved back (as will be free agency) officially. The date not yet determined. Stay tuned.

I'm interested in Ibou Dianko Badji. Unfortunately, the Mavs will convert 2021 pick to NYK.

18. Dallas Mavericks: Saddiq Bey (Wing, Villanova)

There were moments this postseason when Seth Curry was defending Kawhi Leonard. Could it be any more obvious the Mavericks need a big wing? Meet Bey, a versatile 6-foot-8 wing who can defend multiple positions and play with or without the ball on offense.

Saddiq Bey may not even be there at 18. Would 18+31 get you to 10?

If we get s bey or bane it makes thj expendable and if we can get t bey at 31 it makes maxi expendable

Because two rookies are going to replace the production of two veterans in their first year? We all have our favorites but let´s be real.
It´s not very likely that any rookie that isn´t even drafted in the lottery will make a big impact in year one. Of course there are always exceptions but building a roster around the assumption that two rookies will replace a 30+ minutes per game starting wing and a 25+ minutes per game big/forward is crazy.
There is no way that any sane GM would make a decision like this. You don´t move proven starters and replace them with rookies if you want to make the playoffs next year.

I didnt say move them and obviously if u did you'd expect some value but thj is in a contract year and not tying a long term contract to him is ideal and maxi is past the agenof this core so moving him should definitely be on the table. No reason to pay a backup big 9m a year

Maxi is 28-years old. Same as THJ. You won’t get better players that are younger. All of those players are either in contracts or RFA.

Both are at a great age to stick around. We aren’t going much younger than that.

You guys are putting too much faith in Donnie's draft skills. Prior to trading for Luka, he drafted 5 Justin Andersons and 4 Shane Larkins. Signed a couple of Pavel Podkolzines too.

Said rookie would also have to play out of this world. There is no middle ground with Carlisle. Either you are a Luka or a Ryan Broekhoff. There is no in between.

Donnie gets an A+ for 2018 - Jalen Brunson and Luka

Donnie gets an F for the previous several years. Dennis Smith Jr., Justin Anderson, Shane Larkin (does that count. Cuban interfered with that draft or we might of had Giannis Antetokounmpo) etc.

Luka was a brainer and jb is a career backup so i wouldn't call drafting a consensus top 2 pick at number three a great job, had the kings not been the kings we draft wcj at 5 and are a 25 win team again

To address our defensive issues, we've talked to death about adding a wing defender. I think we could do better if we added an athletic defensive big. from this draft i like Onyeka Okongwu. But he's going to be off the board by the roughly the 10th pick. Should we trade picks/assets to acquire him?

The thing with drafting wing defenders via the draft is A) you cant predict if they're gonna do good in the pros. and B) you need 2 years to get them up to speed to the pro game. No 20 year old can guard the best wings in the western conference coming from the draft. DFS took like 2 years before he became useful. not good, just useful.

My point is we have said wing defender in training by the name of Josh Reaves. He's been doing his time and if things go right, he will also be able to crack the rotation by taking Delon Wright and/or Justin Jackson's minutes.

Personally I'm for trading the pick. add it to a package and get players you can use now because KP and Luka are ready.

Yeah, I haven't given up on Reaves yet as he has some skills we desperately need. He has the tools to be an elite defender and I think he still has the potential to fit in the rotation.
If we draft a PG and/or big he might get an opportunity this season.

Reaves needs to watch 10,000 hours of tape on Tony Allen. He's the same size, same height and pretty much the same skill set. if he's gonna be good at one thing, then it's defense. Let's hope he doesn't try to be a Dwayne Wade but stick to becoming like a Tony Allen. That gives him a roster spot and it just makes him work around Luka better. Probably when Seth Curry leaves in 2 seasons.

He needs to add a 3 ball to his arsenal to keep defenses honest.
Can't have an offensive liability, no matter their defensive contributions.

Getting back to Onyeka Okongwu, does he have the tools to play like Bam?
