Warriors Believed To Prefer To Draft Wing Player

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Sep 14, 2020 2:36 pm

The Golden State Warriors are believed to prefer to draft a wing with the No. 2 pick, sources from multiple front offices tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

"Everything is on the table for the Warriors with this pick," writes O'Connor. "They could stay put, trade down, or move entirely out."

O'Connor has the Warriors selecting Deni Avdija in his mock at No. 2 going after Anthony Edwards to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This makes sense as they don't really have a backup behind Wiggins.

Wiggins also shouldn't be viewed as a long-term piece, they could just as easily move him again

I like this, trade down maybe and draft Isaac Okoro or Deni Avdija. Maybe a wiggins, 2, 48, and 51 for 5, Drummond and the more favorable of CLE and GSW in 2023 2nd.

For reference, here's the starting lineups post trade

PG: Steph
SG: Klay
SF: Okoro/Avdija
PF: Draymond
C: Drummond

PG: Darius Garland
SG: Collin Sexton
SF: Andrew Wiggins
PF: Kevin Love
C: James Wiseman/Onyeka Okongwu

Way too good for the W's. Not sure why the Cavs would take on a terrible contract and trade a future 1st rounder to move up three spots, esp since there's a good chance one of Wiseman or Okongwu is still there at #5. Besides, the Cavs are very very far from being able to go all in and draft for need right now, they're not going to start giving up picks and taking on bad deals because they NEED to get a young center to lose 55-60 games with next season. Do you just really want Wiseman or something?

(Also Wiggins remains at best a mediocre rotation player, not sure why folks still want to keep giving him chances. He can't dribble, drive, pass, or defend so he's just a volume jump shooter, and he's not particularly good at that.)

As a GS fan i dont like that trade. Wiggins has been fine for us. Do not want Drummond.

Trade down maybe twice and nab Nesmith or Okoro plus future assets.
