Clippers Could Upgrade Roster Via Trade Taking On Long-Term Money

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Sep 16, 2020 4:08 am

League sources that spoke with Brian Windhorst of ESPN believe the Los Angeles Clippers could piece together existing players on their roster in a trade to bring in more talent if they're willing to take on long-term money.

Steve Ballmer is the NBA's richest owner with a net worth above $70 billion and the Clippers could take advantage of the financial uncertainty other teams.

As one rival executive said: "You've heard of the saying, 'In for a dime, in for a dollar?' Well they're in for 95 cents, in for a dollar."

Both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George could become free agents in 2021.

Unless they are trading Kawhi or PG...they aren't getting real difference makers back in return for garbage like Lou Will and Pat Beverly. Don't know what the fools at ESPN are smoking.

You got no draft picks.

You got no young prospects (Shamet's ok but he's not getting you a star in return)

Your role players are just role players.

Indeed.

So, they anticipated a Clipper loss to the extent that they already had interviewed league sources on what the Clippers could do to improve.

That really wouldn't upgrade the Clippers roster. Horford looked a step slow in these playoffs, maybe age is getting to him. I'd much rather keep Zubac at the 5. He improved a lot this year and if he works with the right people can improve again.

My guess they will be looking to take on money but only from teams willing to send one of their stars along with the money. Basically, if they get more talent back. Otherwise, they aren't taking someone like Horford who will only get another year older and really went downhill in the playoffs.

I'd say OKC may be looking to unload to rebuild but no one is taking Paul's salary. He will likely get bought out and join LeBron. Maybe Schroeder. Maybe Bradley, but Wall again has supermax, no one will touch that besides swapping for another supermax, like CP3 was traded for Westbrook.

Remember, Clippers have Jerry West advising them, he won't allow salary dump deals unless they get talent back.

I'd like to see Doc out. He should have lit a fire after the game 5 let down, instead he allowed the team to break apart the next 2 3rd quarters in game 6 and 7. He was trying to be positive, when he should have instead do what Phil Jackson or Pop would have done so that it wouldn't have happened again in Game 6.

Clippers believe they could trade current players for other players - no way!

They should focus on free agency instead. Sign someone like rondo or d rose to upgrade the pg position. Not crazy signings but both players have proven to be clutch and gutsy when it counts. Doc has to go though. Not really understood the hype around him like he’s a basketball genius or something. Taking last year’s LAC team to the playoffs may have saved him his job and earned him some fans again but that nearly identical team made the playoffs in okc this year and their coach just quit. Doc should get fired or quit.

I think they need a energy big who'll hustle, grab rebounds and have chances at second chance points... Someone like a Bismack Biyombo maybe?

Resign- Marcus Morris

Get a playmaker- D Rose maybe? Garrett Temple? Ish Smith?

Chris Paul Horford John Wall and Tobias Harris Westbrook Blake griffin will be gettable due to the exorbitant salaries and the teams wanting to.offload them.. The best is CP3 but I am guessing the bucks or 76ers can offer a better deal than the LA clippers.. John Wall is interesting but coming off an injury.. Harris and Griffin were already there so won't be trading for them.. Westbrook is a turnover machine who you don't want running point.. Horford would make them better.. Overall I doubt they make any move and just sign a defensive minded centre like Dwight for vet min.. Hell if they could get Bogut I am pretty sure he could contribute still..

This screams an obvious CP3 trade. One I can see being made.

They have the best assets on the market for trade.

Lou Williams is making 8 million and still extremely good at his role.

Pat Bev has a ton of trade value due to his great contract and role as a 3&D PG for a team like Dallas the Lakers.

Zubac and Green are on excellent deals.

I'll do a trade with them before Milwaukee or Philadelphia. Especially if no one isn't willing to sell the kitchen sink.

too bad salary cap exists. He is not just wasting his money, but time as well when he makes that decision.

o well he has enough to just say **** it and get another toy instead when it doesn't work out.

shouldn't the clippers be grabbing all these overpaid players since Balmer is the only one that doesn't care about luxury tax? Grab those Wall, Hayward type contract that nobody would touch and go for that high risk high reward gambles. Even if they don't work out they will become some valuable expiring eventually.
