To a degree I agree with you that Masai isn't without his mistakes, I thought Carrol was a mistake when we signed him. But, no GM or President is perfect. For what he originally had to work with, he had done a fine job. Sure there was a healthy amount of luck involved but so does most executive jobs.

The Denver Nuggets took down Kawhi and the title favourites. Denver's future is much brighter than Toronto's. I guess an organization can not only survive without Masai, they can thrive.

There is only the future, the past does not exist. I am very smart.

Masai didn't give up 6 picks and two very good players for Paul George... just to watch it implode and destroy any future you would have. Unlike the two guys here that would have. So there's that.

Now if only the other 4-5 teams you listed as competing and having a better future in the west only made it to the WCF.

Only took them 8 seasons to get to the same place Masai got in 3.

Even with everything he's done he's still my second favourite president... Galen Weston is number one.

A good GM would trade Leonard and George away for picks and try to be better in 7-8 years. The future is important.

The Clippers will be fine when they add a solid first round pick to their roster, in 2027.

Dude, the Clippers went all in for proven players in Kawhi and George. They had two 6th man of the year players on their team. They had a scrappy, defensive team. They had Jerry West making decisions who is considered as one of the greatest team builders ever. They still lost. This proves it's not that easy to win a chip even when you have a former finals MVP and another star.

Denver has been a very strong team for the last few seasons. But remember they nearly lost to Utah in the 1st round and came back from a 1st round 3-1 deficit.

You are such a short-term thinker it's honestly baffling. Denver was down 3-1 twice and came back from two double digit deficits to the Clippers win the series. Yeah they played great, but also had some luck.

The margin of error to win a chip is small.

The more you post the more insane you get.

What's going on literally proves that having a 50+ win team year after year with a strong core is what leads to long-term success. Yeah teams won't win a chip every year, but you put yourself in contention to win under the right circumstances. That's what Masai has done here.

Did Masai sleep with your girlfriend or something?

Denver also drafted Murray with the pick swap they got from the Knicks in return for Melo lol

BTW you're arguing with a guy who thinks many CEOs get their position because of white privilege and thinks that an African-born executive in an industry where the overwhelming majority of executives with the same position are white, heterosexual males isn't exceptionally talented.

I don't think that article is making your point for you. The Heat dug themselves a hole by trading 1st round picks for Dragic and giving big contracts to guys like Whiteside, JJ and Waiters. Through it all, they maintained their defense-focused culture to attract a free agent with similar values in Jimmy and used their scouting and development system to draft Bam and Herro and sign Robinson and Nunn.

Other than digging a hole for themselves, how is that any different from Masai's approach? The Heat made questionable trades and iffy signings but then they leaned on their organizational strengths to pull them out.

This article is not making the point you're trying to make. There are clear parallels and similarities between the Raptors and the Heats approach to team building. The only difference is that Miami's bad signings allowed them to dip a bit lower in order to secure higher draft picks.

The Heat didn't double down on mistakes, they immediately went on a course of action to change their fortunes and build a sustainable winner. The entire article is a glowing review of Heat culture and the job that organization has done pivoting in essentially 2 seasons from listless to contender.

Their culture is so strong a legit star essentially forced his way there despite not having cap space. They are also favourites to land a big fish in 2021.

"It is one of the greatest front-office accomplishments in recent league history -- more difficult, in a way, than the free agency coup of 2010."

"As one rival GM put it: "The Heat have something better than trade assets."

"They have built something real apart from South Beach and sun, even if South Beach and sun helped them build it."

"A sustainable winner."

How can they be a sustainable winner if it's their 1st year together? You can't call them a "sustainable winner" until they win for multiple seasons, lol.

They are playing great this season, but had a lot of fortune as well. They have been largely healthy and Jimmy is playing at an elite level. In case you haven't realized, Jimmy is an injury prone player who is 31 years old and he's not a great outside shooter.

Can Jimmy stay healthy the next couple years and sustain his level of play?

Remember, the Sixers went all in last year for Jimmy and Harris alongside Simmons and Embiid, AND STILL LOST.

Clippers went all in for Kawhi and George AND STILL LOST.

It's not easy winning a chip, dumb dumb.

Before this season, the Heat had win totals of:

39
44
41
48
37

They haven't had a "sustainable winner" since the Lebron years.

Ok then, so lets revisit after the Raps win total dips below 50 per season and they miss the playoffs in 3 out of the past 6 years. Because nothing, other than recent history suggests that Miami has built a sustainable winner.

Their current "sustainable winner" is from drafting smart and internal development and then going for a star free agent (which Miami traditionally has had an easier time of getting) that fits their culture.

Miami's gameplan (other than the free agent part) sounds eerily similar to the Raps, no? And if it doesn't appear similar to you, where does it diverge?

Her husband was a trash President and got canned. We've been a successful franchise ever since which has been very difficult for her family to deal with.
