Reports say that Brad Stevens didn’t intervene and just stared into space as the events unfolded.

Bum.

Um bummer maybe, but he's a top coach in the league regardless.

No, he is not. He's had the same time Brett Brown had in 76ers ever since both processes ended and he achieved nothing. Is he a top coach for beating bums like Wizards, Pacers, Magic, the failures Phily and the weakened Raptors?

With the talent they have Celtics underachieved badly. Why should we give this guy credit for the good job Danny Eindge has done?

I love seeing Smart like this. His smug nasty persona losing his cool... can't get any better than that. And look at the Celtics - they have ever more floppers on the team- Theis, Brown, Tatum - there are bodies all around the floor. And this disgusting ass team is never on the pressure - they are together for 4 years, as much as Embiid and Simmons and Phily and more than Jokic and Murray in Denver, they have never achieved anything more than beating bum teams and the 76ers and they are always getting a pass. And it's not like didn't have superstars and all stars - they had Kyrie and Horford, now they have Kemba. We only wave a hand a say 'they don't live up to the expectations' and forget about them?

I hope when they got swept people and the media will start giving them proper respect they need.

You should watch his team play. Outside of Kemba and maybe Tatum everybody has been overachieving for years and years.

How have they underachieved? Not many people saw a 20PPG scorer in Brown coming out, and definitely not this quickly. No one expected Tatum to be this good this quickly, a lot of that credit goes to Stevens and his staff. He's dealt with catastrophic injuries and helped his team improve year after year.

Too bad for all the good Ainge* has done, he hasn't found Stevens a reliable rim protector.

Are we sure about that?
When Brown was scoring in lower numbers, all that got mentioned was he was a great athlete and needed time to develop.
He got time, and developed.
Kudos for the Celts for being patient and doing it, but he was drafted 3rd overall for a reason.

It was kind of seen as a bit of a reach at the time

Not a huge one, but he could've gone anywhere from 3 to 7 or 8 as the draft class was seen as pretty weak after Simmons/Ingram

Wasn't like how last year RJ was absolutely going 3rd if Memphis took Morant 2nd, it was like how De'Andre Hunter went 4th though you could've made the case for anyone in the rest of the top 10 to go there at the time.

Boston is still an overachieving team with one of the most sophisticated offenses out there.

Stevens is an excellent coach at getting (most) players to buy-in to his team concept and at getting non-stars to play well above their heads and overachieve.

Honestly, though Ainge was outstanding at acquiring assets, he has been less outstanding at using those assets. Since Stevens was hired in July 2013, the Celtics have had 12 first round picks in 6 drafts and plenty of cap space to use over that time. And ultimately they may never reach the Finals. Three trips to the ECF obviously isn't a failure and they've done better than Philly, but with both teams it's not clear whether their respective wealths of assets/opportunities were maximized.

Though luck and timing also have a lot to do with it. Plus, Tatum is still only 22 so they have options going forward to re-tool.

Any updates on what Smart and others were saying in the Celtics locker room?

[Woj] At one point, sources said, Smart turned to Jaylen Brown and screamed, "You (bleeping) need me. You can't win without me." Smart left teammates and coaches largely speechless. He dominated the locker room in every way. Marcus is back

Interesting. This can't have just suddenly sprung up and sounds like it's been brewing for some time.

Hmmm, that kind of comment coming from a player who'd normally be considered a "glue guy" may be indicative of either his ego swelling or a beef over a lack of team cohesion. Taken out of the context, that quote alone makes Smart seem arrogant.

I do think it is true the Celtics would not still be in the playoffs without Smart. He has stepped up and sometimes provided unexpected offensive production.
