I'm rather worried that after this playoffs, Rondo turns back into a useless pumpkin, like he was last year.

I don't think he'll ask for the full MLE.. Can't we just resign him for the highest tier vet minimum at the end.

We'll need MLE for Boogie.. yeah, I haven't forgotten about Boogie. Have become somewhat personally involved in his injury ridden journey. He'll be such a great fit next to Lebron.

Only way id bring Boogie back is if he signs for the vet min and understands he needs to earn minutes just like DHo did last year.

DHo looks like he deserves a good chunk if not the entire MLE, if he's instrumental in winning a chip, i'd bring him back. I mean, he hasnt played poorly lately, and his attitude change has made him a MASSIVE impact 20 min a game player. The AD + DHo lineups is a freaking terror for other teams. DEN litearlly got blasted as Jokic cant defend either.

With Rondo, the absolute most i'd give him is the Bi-Annual Exception of around 3.8mil a year, its hard to justify to give him near MLE money cuz his track record the past few years isnt as good as DHo's been. If he helps the team win a chip, yea, bring him back.

I'd rather want to bring Kieff back too, his versatility isnt as great as his twin, but he can hit 3s and play smallball 4 just fine. Will be hard to keep if DHo gets a good chunk of the MLE and Rondo gets the BAE, it might come down to choosing 2 of 3 of the aforementioned players, due to not enough exceptions and them wanting more than the vet min.

Think bringing in a 3rd string PG would be important, if the team ends up playing up a size and moving KCP to SG, and LBJ needs a blow from not constantly playmaking. I like Lin for the vet min for 3rd string combo guard role, get him to PnR with the backup bigs and, setting up offenses, getting his teammates the ball.

C - McGee, DHo, Boogie
PF- AD, Kuz, Kieff
SF- LBJ, THT, late FRP
SG- Green, Caruso, Cook
PG- KCP, Rondo, Lin

McGee is, i feel, is useless with the way DHo having arisen. Boogie could be useful if he's ever healthy. AD can slide to the 5 and Kuz/Kieff can slide down to the 3 as needed to balance out mins and roles. I hope THT gets a bigger role next year, i think his long ass arms and athleticism can let him play at SF as needed. Sniper in Green, defensive stopper in training in Caruso. KCP floats 1-3 depending on whatever the team needs on the floor. Rondo hopefully isnt useless in the regular season but still has playoff mode ready to be activated. Lin is the old vet who can do a bit of everything, playmake, hustle, and fill in if anyone ahead of his gets hurts or falters at the 1/2 spots. Cook is only a shooter, not sure if he's worth a roster spot if the team needs more versatility out of its player, but they still have him for 1 more year or they can waive him for a 1mil cap hit.

The only question that comes down is this.... are the Lakers hellbent on opening a 2021 max slot, if they are, that means they cant give multi year deals to DHo, Rondo, and Kieff. At best all they can offer is 1+1 team option, so as to preserve 2021 cap space. McGee, Green, Caruso, Cook, and KCP are all expiring, the old vets in Boogie and Lin are 1 year flier types and wont affect anything long term.

Is it worth giving up 2021 cap space to keep DHo, Kieff, and Rondo. Of the 3, i like DHo the most and Rondo the least. It would be an insane coup to retain them all for 1+1 team option deals, but clearly all three of these vets would want more job security than to risk a 1 year deal at this stage of their careers.

Agreed agreed agreed, except Dwight over Boogie. To clarify, I don't think either's a gold digger.. both great dudes.

I'm not a fan of Dwight. I think he's just one of the many role players who look better than they are around Lebron, cos they're winning in the spotlight. None of them are deemed any good before or after they are parted from Lebron. e.g. Mario Chalmers, Mike Miller, Shane Battier, TT, JR, Delly, Mozgov, Jeff Green, etc.

I realize that Dwight has excellent defensive technique and strength, which, combined with AD & Bron's roving rim protection, is a huge bonus for all perimeter defenders enabling them to go ultra aggressive or execute a particular game plan for a player without fear. That is indeed huge, and there are maybe 10 players in the NBA who can do that now. But that's where it ends.
-He has no offensive capability
-His extreme indiscipline often halts our runs / puts us in the penalty way too early(he was averaging a foul every 2 minutes in the first 4 games against the Blazers and isn't playable against legit small ball teams like Rockets or Clippers)
-His rebounding is not elite anymore for a big man whose only job is to sit inside the paint.
-Clogs up the paint for Bron, AD and other driver / cutters.

This generation of big men is obsolete in the NBA. Better bigs with the same skillset and lesser weaknesses - Drummond, Whiteside basically have to shut up and opt in for their extensions in unwanted destinations, cos they knew it was their last payday. Expect them to be bouncing around for 5-8 mil as their contracts end. Dwight, with his many flaws, is worth far less.

Boogie @ 70% fitness, where he can give us 25 minutes a game is way better than either of Dwight & McGee. His defense is probably about 70-80% of Dwight, considering -
-no body fouls as much
-Lebron's influence should help keep his temper in check
-elite rebounder

On offense, Boogie is only second to Jokic and Embiid.
-Legit post game
-Can play make in Lebron's absence. There's a wild unguardable big to big p'n'r that AD and him kinda created which specially makes me salivate.

-Rondo, AD & Boogie's chemistry is off the charts
-Elite passer from the post
-3 point shooting
-Opens up the paint for drives and cuts

Dwight has made enough money being an idiot through his career, and I would prefer having him over McGee as our second Center after Boogie(except McGee's signed up for a 2 year contract), but I'm not sweating if the moron leaves again. Good luck to him finding another job.

If the lakers win it all this year, I don’t care what the franchise does after.

If they win, I would have seen the lakers hoist the O’Brien trophy 11 times as a fan. That’s a lot .. more than enough for a lifetime. I’m good. I’m not greedy.

Ha ha... although I wouldn’t mind keeping the core for another run.. then anFA signing here & there on vet/ minimum

I feel you're greatly underselling the defensive impact DHo has had so far. When he's on the floor, there's practically no drop off in defensive rating, when AD goes to the bench for rest. Yes, DHo is taking advantage of LBJ + AD's greatness on the floor, but he's a HUGE part in why this team is able to stay elite on defense all game long and give the team the ability to not get blown out and to come back and win games.

Boogie, as great as he was when he wasnt crippled with injuries, is a complete non-factor as its now been 2 seasons since he last played healthy ball. I mean, by all means, sign him for the vet min and see if he can come back strong, however, i'd rather go for the sure bet and bring back DHo as i figure he's vastly more likely to keep up his elite impact defensive play.

This next game will interesting, if DHo can maintain his physical dominance without geting fouled out in 15 mins, it should be another solid Laker win.

Nah man.. I understand his defensive qualities.. I do. I'll think he's a top 10 pure defensive rim protector at this point in his career, but that has extremely limited utility in today's game.

Look at this -
-This guy is unplayable against the 10-15% of the elite small ball teams in the league.
-The better centers like him (Whiteside) treat him like a ragdoll, which is hard to understand, given the way he's built.
-Clogs up the paint and puts and anchor on Lebron centric offense

Happy to disagree and leave it at that, cos I'll personally settle for a Sr Morris @ the 5 rather than him in the playoffs.. lol.

All that said, I'm confused why he's not starting or been brought on yet, cos Jokic has been his baby all season.

Look mate.. Vogel can't play Dwight, despite the horror show from McGee, cos he'd foul out for the 4th, if he's played extended minutes now, despite the matchup advantage against their best player.

Should definitely be kept: Rondo, Caruso, THT, Kostas, LeBron, AD, Howard, Morris

Could be shopped for a trade: Bradley, McGee, Green, KCP, Kuzma, Cook

I feel bad for McGee... He's been solid for us, with moments of brilliance... But he has been just awful in the bubble... I'd not be trying too hard to keep him either.

Boogie's interesting, but he needs to prove he can stay on the court and contribute before I waste too much of our limited resources on him...

Rondo has been brilliant in the playoffs but he was brutal all year... I guess we gotta keep him but damn, I hope he's basically free..

Kuz is the only half-ass asset we have.

THT sure looks promising. Not sure if I really believe in him yet... But might as well keep him.

Yeah, Avery Bradley. He isn't in the bubble and the team is playing very well without him.

We gotta learn from our history. When we went 3peat for example, 1st year vs 2nd year vs 3rd year. If you look at rosters from year 1 to 3, we can see the type of changes we had. The kinds that made necessary adjustments, but kept the continuity and chemistry. That 2nd year, UNBREAKABLE chemistry. 3rd year slipped a bit, but still strong enough to withstand a gut punch from Sacramento, which this Denver team is turnin into.

So the changes needed are obvious, and we know how to do it. Because we've seen it before.

I am sure we need Moe Harkless. The knicks did not released him before.
@Dmagic Of course we need reliable and trusted PG like Rondo.
Simmons? Lonzo? Daren Collison?

We need shooting and a floor general... Simmons is a floor general, but only in transition, and he'd probably eat up all the money we have available... Lonzo's got to become a free agent first, but I think that's possible... He's probably going to be fairly cheap, and he's a decent half court passer too... But we'd still need a true shooting guard or SF that can hit 3s from anywhere, at volume and consistently... If we could get Lonzo (Lonzo from the second half of the season, and he continues to get better) and find another young guy that's a volume 3 and D guy, we could have a nice 3 headed monster with AD to set us up for the future and be ready when LeBron retires...
Or we can get Simmons and teach his ass how to shoot and commit to running a lot. I highly doubt simmons is an option though.

Dwight tries to foul out in 15 mins every night.. just a massive liability putting us in penalty, halting out runs or unavailable due to foul trouble. Let him stay if we can get a starter like Whiteside for McGee, and Dwight can be a back up.

Think Rondo's gonna be around. He's been better than some superstars these playoffs.
