And getting an assist assumes the receiver can actually make a shot...something that was non-existent for the entire 1st half of the season in Chicago with Otto gone, Lauri unable to hit anything, and Kris Dunn & Sato & Wendell as your shooters.

Of course, if you take away that stretch of 17 games where Lauri averaged 18 points on 49% and 40% shooting, Lavine would have averaged 4.3 assists on the year.

During this part of the season when Lauri was on fire, Lavine's assists per game slightly decreased. This was also the point when the Bulls were starting to turn their season around. They went 7-10 with a +29, and 5 of the losses were by 5 points or less. Unfortunately Carter and Lauri got injured right after this span of good play. If you're curious, Lavine shot only 42% during that stretch.

In addition, Lavine's assists per game were also slightly lower during the nine games he played with Otto. Though Otto wasn't exactly setting any records with his shooting. In Otto's best performance Lavine had 3 assists and in his second best performance Lavine had 7 assists.

Lavine's assists per game shot up at the end of the season between games 48 to 60. During this stretch of games Lavine averaged 27.7 PPG, 5 RPG, 5.8 APG,and shot 47% and 35%. However, his ORtg - DRtg was 107 - 120, and the Bulls won only three of these games. They were also outscored by 84 points.

Not the biggest fan of Billy but I completely understand the appeal with his player development. I’m good with the hire.

I’d pass on Doc, even though he’s a Chicago native would’ve made a nice story line.

Would you want the guy who's blown so many 3-1 leads and series leads?

No thanks. Hard pass on Doc.

Yeah, I like the Donovan hire, but I probably would have preferred Rivers had the option been available. I don't know if he would have been interested in a rebuilding situation, but he is a Chicago native, so maybe.

Although I’m not as down on Doc as you are, the playoff collapses are a real thing with his teams. That said, he’ll find another job somewhere if he is interested in coaching next year. Indy might be a decent fit for him.

Doc Rivers is so overrated. Failed time and time again with very talented teams.

In fairness, those CP3, Griffin and Jordan teams overachieved until the playoffs. They were not set up to win deep in the playoffs.
That's why the first they did was strip the team down and rebuild with young guys once Frank and West moved into prominent FO roles.

So did Paul Westhead. Don't get me wrong, Doc is as solid of a coach as you can get but he's not a coach you wait for, either. Doc will get another job, I'm just glad the Bulls got Donovan.

I think donovan is a better fit for us. We need a guy who can really coach a really young team. Rivers need a vet team. Houston would be a great spot for rivers.

It's been a while, but Doc overachieved with a young perhaps under-talented team in Orlando.

Head coaches in general are overrated. People have significantly inflated expectations as to the impact of the head coach on the game and thus people whom are thought of highly often have negative backlash later for underperformance when it becomes clear their positive impact didn't carry over, but the big secret is that is true of pretty much everyone.

So in a nutshell, every coach people think is incredible is probably overrated IMO, but many of them never have it proven, and by overrated, I don't mean they're bad. Tehy're great. Still probably the best in the world at what they do. However the impact of the best coach in the world and the 30th best coach isn't so different. The best coach just typically has a better situation.
