I live here, don't trust your eyes or polls when it comes to AZ, the GOP controls the state politics and Ducey (pronounced Dooshy no matter what anybody else says) is a Trump stooge. I won't believe it until I see it and I still may not believe it if I see it because it's AZ.
Although, cannabis legalization is back on the ballot and more than a decade ago it lost by something like 10% but 4 years ago it only lost by 67k votes, less than 1%, so this purple state trending blue may actually pass it this time....yay.
Aside from the hispanic demographic shift, you've got your many retirees no matter how Republican they may have been. Same here in Florida. And there has been a massive shift in their POV now that many of those over 65 feel like Trump is trying to kill them so he won't have to make their SS payments. Trump without the senior citizen vote is not a viable candidate, but you know AZ and I don't so I'll take your word for it that we need to wait and see.
AZ is very unique in that even though republicans have a slight edge over democrats in party registration those who identify as independent make up almost a third of registered voters. About 100k voters is the difference between the three different groups.
Those independents which I am a part of are made up of a wide array of types of voters that are difficult to predict how they will vote from election to election. AZ is a very independent minded state and those independent voters don't trust party politics.
Independent AZ voters are everything from intolerant of others beliefs/ideas who hate the government and many are now full blown Q brained Trumpers or they can be tolerant 'live as you want to just don't bother me' who don't hate the government but just don't truth politicians.
There's such a mix of ideas, concepts, beliefs and behavior it's hard to say it's just one way, two ways a few ways. It's very much a spectrum and people are dotted all along it so very hard to know how they will vote. That independent group used to be more socially conservative but is growing more socially liberal along with the state and is very unpredictable.
The older and Hispanic voters here in AZ are more diverse from left to right than someone would anticipate. Also, people like their guns in AZ because it's such a rural state so that is the only thing that keeps the state from going very blue because they assume dems want to take their guns.
The GOP is doing everything it can shady and deceitful or whatever to keep control over the state which is about like the rest of the states that have a purple hue to it after a history of red rule. The 'silent majority' as they call themselves is nowadays really a noisy minority that cheats alot.
