What would it take to pry HOmer Bailey away?

Post#1 » by diamondbacker » Thu Apr 5, 2007 3:02 am

My hope/idea (probably grossly underpaying)

ARI: Carlos Gonzalez, Alberto Callaspo, Cyle Hankerd

What do you think is realistic?

Impossible. Teams just don't trade guys like Homer Bailey. It flatout doesn't happen without a team really, really overpaying.

They wouldn't trade him being Cincy needs pitching and it would make no sense to trade away a front of the rotation guy who they will have under their financial control for the next 5 years.

Imagine a challenge trade of Bailey for Young straight-up?

pitching is so valuable today it would take a combination of 2 to 3 high prospects to just start a discussion about a guy like bailey.

You'd have a better chance at getting Harang,or Arroyo than you would Bailey.

Hey this is kinda off topic i guess....but i saw Homer Bailey pitch in high school and he was just sick man...

But he was on a summer select team his senior year: look at some of the players on this roster...

Homer Bailey-Reds
lhp-Troy Patton(top prospect for astros)
lhp/if-Joe savery(he's at rice, top prospect)
and rhp/inf-Kyle Drabek-(philles 1st round pick)

thats four pitchers on a high school team throwing mid 90's +

and these kids weren't from all over the country....thats just the houston area

but BTW....i dont think the Red's would give up Bailey for anything except Felix Hernandez

I think they'd give him up for Alex Gordon and possibly Phil Hughes (less injury concern).

In order for the Reds to trade Bailey, I would think they would want one of these guys in return:
Felix Hernandez
Albert Pujols
Miguel Cabrera
Jose Reyes
Joe Mauer
Grady Sizemore
Alex Gordon
Brian McCann
Delmon Young
David Wright
Scott Kazmir
Chase Utley
Brandon Webb
Ryan Howard
Johan Santana

But since a Diamondback fan started the thread a trade that is pretty fair value is Drew for Bailey. Drew was ranked BA's #1 prospect during the season last year. But players like this just don't get traded, so I highly doubt anything will happen with any of the players i named, unless someone is just blown away with an offer, which means the other team is being stupid.

Reds fan here. He is our jewel and I dont see us parting ways with him. We are taking our time and making sure he is completely ready before we bring him up and I anticipate for him to stay a Red.
