mtcan have you noticed people getting sick as a side effect of the lock down? In physicals are people more out of shape? Do they have back pain due to working from home? Are they suffering from mental health?
Ska needs to make a comeback.

During the first 3 months of the lock down...our ER was practically empty. People were afraid to go to the hospital during that time for health issues that really needed medical attention. People were ignoring chest pain which is usually a bad sign of a heart attack. When people put off treating a heart attack...by the time they show up after 3 days of the worst chest pain...the heart is usually to far gone to fix. People were ignoring abdominal pain and overt signs of bleeds resulting in GI bleeds requiring emergency surgery. I've seen a few more patients in for conditions tied to alcohol abuse. Perhaps it's due to depression...perhaps it's due to boredom? I can't speak to mental health issues but our mental health program has expanded a bit over the past couple of months...and that might be preparing for more mental health admissions going forward perhaps?

From mid-March until early June, elective and scheduled surgeries were postponed/slowed (some scheduled really important surgeries still happened). Since then, they have been working through the backlog and catching up. Emergency surgeries never stopped.

Our ICU was 2/3 full of covid patients at the peak of the first wave. We had patients spending up to as long as 2 months in an ICU bed on a ventilator. Some lived to move out of ICU and out for another month or so before going. Some died. So ya...even during a first wave that most would agree...wasn't too bad compared to other harder hit regions...our ICU was still 2/3 full. It isn't hard to fill up those critical care beds because covid patients sick enough to go to hospital spend a long time in hospital and their care needs are high.

I don't believe I've seen people more out of shape after 3 months of stricter lockdown measures and a summer of looser restrictions.

Since lockdown measures lifted in the summer...our ER been back to business as usual. So in general...I can't blame the lockdown for worse health outcomes necessarily. People just afraid of the unknown and didn't know what to do in the early stages of the lockdown.

Having gone through this once already...I think people know better than to stay away from the hospital when they really need medical attention. And I know for a fact that if covid cases keep rising and hospitalizations start rising...the surgeries will be postponed once again...and that too, won't lead to good outcomes...so once again...it is in everyone's best interest to stay safe and keep the case numbers down so that the health care system can continue operating as it can.

People also work themselves sick, get injured often, and suffer from anxiety at their jobs all the time.

Yes of course. But I got the answer I was looking for. Working from home constantly, limited activity, ignoring surgeries and illnesses and mental health are a different set of issues that might produce a different load to doctors / hospital. For example, many people who work out at a community centre can't for a long time. Or kids on sports teams can't do it so I am expecting more people getting unfit and that can have consequences.

Why are there Canadians who wear MAGA hats and carry around the Trump flag? It never made sense to me.

Everything that you’ve identified has more to do with the individuals than working from home. People worked from home before corona, you just have to adjust to it. Nothing precludes you from going out for regular walks or exercising outdoors or even indoors. I don’t work out as much since gyms aren’t open but that’s 100% on me and I’d rather adjust my exercise routines than be exposed to coronavirus.

Because this is all AstroTurf from right wing news sites like Rebel Media. It doesn’t make sense because it’s disingenuous.

It's also sad that there are so many Canadians that are heavily invested into hating on Trump. At my workplace, my entire row talk about Trump all day, good thing for the invention of noise-cancelling headphones.

Anyway, getting back to the lockdown situation, my medication to this lately has been to hit the trails either during my lunch break or after work. The gym used to be my escape from the house but now I'll have to use nature as my escape which is best anyhow for real clean air and natural sunlight for vitamin D.

We're already working from home, now we've got food delivery services, Amazon Prime, virtual fitness classes etc. I'd rather not rely on those things so I'll gtfo of the house whenever I can despite the weather getting colder.

Good point, it's on the individual but individuals make bad decisions as we see in this pandemic. it's good to see that it's not having a huge impact so far. Maybe mental health will also not be as big an issue. This is encouraging.

This has never happened and has never been suggested. This is childish hyperbole.

It is definitely an issue. A quick google search brings up a bunch of recent articles on the subject:

Easier to generate mass hysteria with just the total number of cases.

The real target audience to protect are the vulnerable but yeah let's close the gyms guys. Insanity this world is becoming. All the shaming by the Karens.

Dont feel safe? Stay the **** home. No one's forcing you to go anywhere.

The problem with this is that it is a narrow view of the issue, you are looking at it from one silo when there are obviously other factors that come into play such as economic, physical and mental health of the general population. The recent words of Dr. David Nabarro of the WHO.

“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr. Nabarro said earlier this month to the British magazine The Spectator. “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted. But by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

“We really do appeal to all world leaders, stop using lockdown as your primary method of control,” Dr. Nabarro said.

I would rather not lock down as well...but people in Canada can be real idiots...so that is why we can't have nice things.

There would be no need for continued lockdowns if Canadians embraced the same mask acceptance culture as many east Asian nations do.

Not wearing a mask doesn't make you a badass hero. In Asia doing that you'd be looked at like a dumbass.

What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you take snippets of my post and use it out of context? I never said we should shut down the economy. Here's the entire sentence that I wrote:
