Teams that think they're contenders (SAS, TOR)
and contenders on that list (DAL, LAL, MIA) would all love to pay Hayward more than we want to, and we will just as likely look a lot worse to him then others.
The real danger is him signing with the LAL for the MLE after they've won their second championship as the perfect 6th man for that team.
We can afford to lose ANOTHER max player on this team for NOTHING. Like we did with Irving and Horford.
We need to trade him to ensure this team doesn't fall off the cliff when Hayward leaves.
I'm even fine overpaying him to stay if we think that will help our ability to trade him.
I wouldn't bet on his body lasting in a significant way beyond 3 years from now though.
