Re: 2020 Presidential Election Thread: The Homestretch
I just chatted with 2 people I know who are Republican. One said he is sitting out this election. The other said he really doesn't know what he'll do, but he's going to try to vote on November 3rd and he'll vote if the lines aren't too long. He didn't say for whom.

I think this is likely going to happen a great deal on November 3rd when the Republicans who couldn't be bothered to vote early were supposedly going to turn out in force. I doubt that
The proof is already baked in. The Democratic voters are the motivated ones
Trump is the one with the enthusiasm problem, not Biden
What's pretty comical about MAGA people is they think it is some kind of badge of honor to only vote on election day. It goes part and parcel with their infinite capacity for self-delusion that they believe the huge disparity in early voting statistics is going to be overcompensated for on a single day

I'm sorry he's not a little more progressive, but there is definitely going to be a place in national government for this guy.

They probaby believe they can submit him to conversion therapy and turn him into their token Gaypublican
I did not want Pete as president, but I agree he could have a very positive role as a cabinet member provided he is assigned to a department where his more progressive instincts can be used.

There was a Star Trek character whose nickname was "Often Wrong" -- so maybe now this would be a good nickname for Republicans.

The atmosphere was festive and happy. 100% wore masks! Yes, I did not see 1 person without a mask (sorry, Donald). Those who were two week to walk were carried or assisted by poll workers. Inside the facility, it was the most orderly operation I've seen. Hand sanitizer for every person entering. 6' distancing was enforced by friendly, cooperative people who seemed happy to be dong their jobs.
I spoke with over 50 people. The atmosphere was so joyful -- everyone I spoke with seemed to say this one is personal. The turnout is the most amazing thing I've ever witnessed when voting, and I've been voting over 30 years. There was such a feeling among those on the line that we are all in this together. If there were any Trump voters, it wasn't apparent.
I wore my MKGA hat and lots of people commented on making the Knicks the next thing we have to fix.
Walking home from voting, I had a kind of natural high feeling that I haven't felt in years.
After voting, I spoke with several police who were there and asked if there had been any trouble. One laughed and said this was the best assignment he's ever had and nobody did anything at all since the poll opened this morning. Another policeman heard us talking and came running up and said he completely agreed. This just doesn't happen often in Jamaica.
I read that the lines heading to the Barclay's site were 5 blocks long - more than go to Nets games.
Do you remember Trump saying NYC is a ghost town? Well, now I know where all the people are. They're voting early!

The polls have missed the very dramatic increased enthusiasm of Democratic voters. I mean, who thought people would get this excited about voting for Biden? I talked with 50 people today, and each one of them said they hope their vote will help to right a terrible wrong.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election Thread: The Homestretch
One woman I spoke with is a receptionist in a local medical office. She was making her newly eligible son stand with her. She told me she made him vote by telling him he needed to carry a chair for her in case she couldn't stand up that long. She told me it was only a ploy to make sure he voted along with her. LOL
Also, people held the place in line for those who had to step aside to sit down and for those who had to get water. Not one person complained - such a rarity among New Yorkers. Another woman told me she lives in NYC and hasn't voted in 20 years but this year she "had to do the right thing in case I don't make it much longer - I want to know I did something good." OMFG - I never heard comments like these before. Truly remarkable.

Something amazing is happening. People were sharing chairs, giving others water, sharing snacks with strangers. Everybody felt it - the crowd was far more excited than typical crowd at MSG for another Knicks loss LOL.

I took some video on my cell. Can I upload it directly from it or do I have to post it to an instragram acct or something?

I’m not from the US so I’m curious. What do you guys think is leading to the early voting in definitely Democratic states like New York?
