Re: Fake Trade Thread 2
I know his contract is bad and he's coming off a sub par year, but I want to remind everyone that he was averaging a triple double the three seasons prior. If we aren't spending in FA and we don't have to give up anything valuable other than cap space, this could be a good move for us. Wish he was more like 29 instead of 32, but if he was and he wasn't coming off a down year then he'd never be available to us.

Yes this. Houston has no firsts. We have very little incentive to take on $132 million in salary. I mean, even if they gave us 6 first round draft picks, that is literally $22 million per draft pick. Yes we get Westbrook, but if he's not happy in Houston, you think he'll be happy here? Further away from LA?
The time to be rebuilding is now. Owners don't like rebuilding because they can't sell tickets to a bad team. Guess what? We can't sell tickets now anyway due to COVID. It's time to go young and develop. I guess the only thing is, if there is no G-league and no Greensboro, it makes it harder to develop.
Mitch would never do this. Reports are our front office is split? Yeah it's MJ on one side and Mitch on the other.

Re: Hornets Interested in Westbrook
Houston would probably just salary dump Russ, we wouldn't give up the 3rd or anything of real value
I'm not in favor of this but can't say it wouldn't be fun

Re: Fake Trade Thread 2
I don't want Russ but let's say we do Rozier + Zeller for him.
We would probably need to make some more win-now moves if we want to actually do anything with Russ. Is there a Batum for Hield or Batum for Hayward trade that wouldn't cost us our core or the third pick?
Devonte
Russ
Hield or Hayward
PJ
OO or Wiseman
What's that a sixth seed?

If Russ was in last year of deal I might consider but he has 3 years left. He already has negative trade value, so if he doesn’t like it here we will have to attach assets to move him.

For all of his warts and question marks, Russ is a star. There would be some definite upsides to having him on the team.
I've moved from being very anti-Westbrook to being more neutral. As long as the Hornets don't give up much I don't mind. As other have noted, it's not like Houston can give much in this scenario given what they traded to get the guy.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

This sounds like a nightmare. We are about to cripple ourselves immensely. 3 years left on his deal and he's a shell of his former self.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

If the Hornets renounce Biz they'll be under the cap. Any Russ trade could be done without having to fully match salary.

2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'm about 50/50 on this type of move... but to say this would cripple us? I don't see it. He's certainly on the brink of his twilight years from what I can tell but you can't tell me adding a triple double machine to this roster would be "crippling". This is a buy low scenario and I have no doubt his impact was diminished in that system with Harden requiring the ball in his hands 90% of the time. Just not a good fit. It'd be a different story here.

Westbrook would come in and control everything meaning Graham growth is stunted. I would much rather get Horford or Hayward in a salary dump.

The guy misses dunks now. Teams weren't even guarding him beyond 18 feet in the playoffs because he can't shoot.
The only reason he gets triple doubles is because he is a ball hog.

100% where I'm at. This is an all time bad move if it goes through.

Re: Hornets Interested in Westbrook
Call it stat padding if you want but trading for a guy who averaged 27 7 and 7 on 48% shooting wouldn't be all time bad. He has his warts mainly his contract, but when he's on the court he goes all out unlike a lot of other big paid stars

Re: Fake Trade Thread 2
We have wayyyyyyyy more leverage in a Westbrook trade. He wants out, Houston has limited cap space/pick, few teams have space to trade for him.
It’s not like we need to get Westbrook. This should give Mitch the power to get a deal that favors us more than them if anything.
If he wasn’t so ball dominate I would be more open to it but he can’t just play a small role and fit in. You have to play Westbrook ball if you get him and that is not how you develop guys.

I said above but no one respond: What is the best case scenario if we trade for Westbrook? In my view it's a 6/7 seed. Why do we want our team to be topping off at that?
If it doesn't go well then the downside is huge.

Not sure of reliability of source (dude has less than 300 followers), but wouldn't exactly be the first time that a marquee player was like "Charlotte? Nah I'm good."

what say does westbrook have at all? he is on a max with 3 years left. he will be lucky to be traded at all and is a borderline negative asset. you will go where I trade you.

Ya, I'm done with this franchise if they trade for Westbrook. What a joke.

Hornets aren’t trading for Westbrook especially if he doesn’t want to be here because we will have to attach assets to him to move him.
It’s makes ZERO sense and even less knowing this.
