Especially in the championship year (where arguably Norm was our worst defender, and he's still quite good). So that makes guys like Love & Gallo a big no for me, unless they are waived, or bench guys.
If there's one guy who I think is undervalued right now, it's Aaron Gordon. I was really impressed with him 2 years ago when we played the Magic in the playoffs, and I think in the right situation he'd be really good. Obviously there's some positional overlap with OG & Siakam (and doesn't really fit with Giannis if we signed him), but he's still someone I'd keep an eye one. I mean, he's probably the worst fit for us right now (he basically does what our only two long-term players do, and is a poor man's version of our free agent target), but I still like him.
I agree pretty much 100% with this.
Except I’m not sure if I mind the overlap.
1) even if we are only playing 2 at a time. Between two positions they can each get 32 mins. They stay pretty fresh and we are stacked at those positions throughout the game defensively having two long, strong versatile defenders that can switch anything
2) if we have a strong ball handler on I have zero regrets sliding OG down to guards 2s and having siakam handle the ball a little to help fvv or Lowry. I also have zero problems anyone of the three sliding up to guard 99% of centre’s and trust OG to guard any modern big man. The mismatches would be bigger to us on the other end when their C has to guard one of those three.
I don’t know what it would take to get Gordon. But I think he could fit right in no problem and thrive in a much better team setting than Orlando.
