1. He wanted more playing time than the roughly 0 he got in the playoffs for us. Probably the most likely reason.
2. He knew he was potentially a trade chip and would rather have the power in his own hands about who he plays for than opting in and then seeing where Horst sends him.
3. He knows Brook is on the chopping block and doesn't want to be here if Brook is gone.

He could just think he is somewhat redundant to what his brother brings to the team, just less of it.

That's how I see Robin anyways.

Robin opting out makes me wonder that much more what kind of trade packages we might be offering around that include BroLo.

What can we get for Brook?

Highly speculative but I'll allow it.

Pfft, good luck to Robin finding a team that plays in an area with a river AND a lake.

From the Bucks' perspective, that financial flexibility is real nice, but it does remove one of the few easily-tradeable salary slots we have.

Suspect it's less a surprise to Horst though as opposed to us RealGMers doing our best to come up with trade scenarios with limited info.

Now that we have some breathing room, we can afford to hang onto Ersan as a trade chip and still have full MLE access. If Robin opted in, we'd likely have needed to waive Ersan to gain that flexibility. So you were likely always gonna lose one of the two as chips.

I still have us waiving Ersan. Waiving Ersan gives us access to both the MLE and BAE. Though I've been wrong before, who knows.

Robin opting out is good in terms of there being less barriers to Giannis at 5. Robin opting out in conjunction with Wes is a little concerning because it's the second instance of a ring-chasing vet deciding against guaranteed money from Milwaukee. Either Horst gave them the indication he has a way to replace their minutes or they get the sense this team's roster is about to be wildly different and perhaps not a contending team.

Not good for us in terms of trades for salary dumps. We’re still over the cap so who cares

I'm gonna assume he's a class act for realizing it was better for his brother's team for him to go. I hope he gets a decent contract, but I think he's losing money by doing this.

Rolo saw the Deej taking all his playing time next season, makes sense to me.

This sounds good to me - even though i don't understand how it works. :clown:

Maybe Robin wants to take less money to stay in Orlando.

Yep. As much as I like RoLo, this is good news for roster flexibility.

I'm not sure if DJ will be ready to replace those Rolo minutes without another crack at summer league.

This obviously clears the way for Anthony Davis to Milwaukee.
