I would imagine Weaver is looking to sign and trade Wood for more draft picks/young assets. Makes sense; that should be the only focus of this organization for the new few years - asset accumulation.

Offer him $12M. Knicks added Obi Toppin and ATL drafted Okongwu. Probably takes both out of Wood interest. Nobody else has cap space to sign Wood unless he accepts MLE.

I hope that happens! That’s a good deal
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

We'll see what wood wants to do. If he wants to join an immediate contender, that's what he was going to do all along. A rebuild could/should be a big chance for him though. If he signs a pretty big dollar contract for 2-3 years and then gets to be a featured part of our offense, he hits free agency again right in his prime.

Of those, Boston is the likeliest.
Miami is possible
Doubt Indiana is interested with all of Sabonis/Turner/Bitadze in their frontcourt

Winslow was Memphis, but.....

Wood for Olynyk and a first?

Oh yeah, you're right. My badd.

I can see Memphis having some interest in Wood to form a frontcourt duo with JJJ. Not sure they would be willing to give a 1st to get him though.

I could see Miami kicking the tires on that. I've personally always kinda liked Olynk as well.

Yeah, Wood has only made like $4 mil total in his career so far. Which is peanuts for a guy that has been in the NBA since 2015.

I think his #1 priority will be to get the most money. If Detroit offers him that, I'm confident he'll return. Also, as you said Detroit can offer him a feature role which can lead to him increasing his value even more for his follow up contract when he will be around 28 years old.

If Wood desires going to a good team and I'm his agent, I tell him to practice patience. I tell him to get his money now from Detroit, and go out and play hard every night. If he does that there is the very real chance that he outplays his new contract, and with Detroit in full rebuild mode they won't hesitate to trade him to a contender when they come calling.

I'm beginning to think Wood may still be in play for us. I'd be fine with that.

If we let Luke go because he did not line up with new rookies, you have to think they could feel the same on Woods. Also the Pistons took on McGruder and Bradley last night that added another $10M to our cap which made no sense to me given the circumstances.

Sad, because Woods showed more potential for a young guy then anyone we had in a while and we just let him walk for free??

I think we let luke go because he's a offense only perimeter player with medical concerns and limited athleticism. Weaver seems to be targeting all 2 way players with length. We'll see what he thinks of Wood, but I think wood looks a lot more like the guys we are bringing in than the guys we are sending out.

Yeah, the hope is that Wood genuinely wants to win and needs us to facilitate a sign and trade.

In that case we’ll likely get minimal return, but anything is better than nothing.

Exactly: Who has the money and a need at PF?

Blake is on the way out mid-season. Bey and Sekou might be at the 4 or the 3. Center is Stewart and the Jazz guy.
So there is room for Wood to play starter minutes as soon as mid-season.

Money? Who has the money if ATL and NYK dont need another PF?

There is a lot of interest in him, but not a lot of teams with extra cap space, so there's a chance he stays.

There's too much glee/apathy towards losing Wood here now. I get that everyone's excited about last night and glad we're finally rebuilding now. But even when you're in rebuild, you need building blocks. Wood is a perfect building block moving forward. Still young, but not new to the league, and damn good. It would hurt the rebuild to lose him.

For the record I’ve always been apathetic.

I knew from the moment he started playing well that losing him was very likely.

It’s a survival mechanism. I’d be good with keeping him so long as it’s not a crazy overpay, but I don’t think that’s in the cards.

The Knicks love bringing in a whole bunch of guys that play the same position. They signed Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, Bobby Portis, and Julius Randle in the same offseason.

The fact that they drafted a power forward means nothing.

I think he either goes there on an overpay, signs the MLE somewhere good, or does a sign and trade.

If I’m wrong, great.

A lot of good takes here. Who knows!

Snell, Ariza, DRose, McGruder, and Blake. All those guys need to be gone. That is most of the cap space for the team. If they get traded somewhere else that opens up a huge amount of room.

Plus Wood might not even be the target. Weaver might see guys he wants to trade for, sending DRose out and getting back his salary plus some for a younger guy.

Wood has limited options to get above MLE money, but there will be some options for him out there. I think he's good as gone.
