Yeah, I’m starting to think the same.

What am I missing? Why not stretch Snell in that case?

Snell would be stretched over three years since he has one year remaining. Dedmon has 13M guaranteed over two remaining years so can be stretched over five seasons. IIRC the formula is double years remaining + 1.

So Snell would be 6M this year and 6M next year on the books. So knock 6M off the cap this year. Dedmon is 13M over five years or 2.6M a year on the books for five seasons. Saving 10M in cap space this off-season.

The last thing we need to do is stretch money from years where there's no chance were competitive to years where we might be.

He did get it wrong. Not sure how you can end up with $5.2 million. Even if you count the full remaining money on his contract $26,666,666 and divide it by 5 that's like $5.3 million.

Anyways, for Dedmon he has $13,333,333 and $1,000,000 in guaranteed money left. With the stretch rules that's twice the remaining years on the contract plus one, so 2x2 +1 = 5. $14,333,333 / 5 = $2,866,666.6.

I didn't calculate the details before reading that article so thanks for doing the math for me which checks out.

I still think it's a bad idea to have dead money on the cap for that long. At some point the Pistons are going to be good again (maybe) and we'll look back at it in several years and realize how dumb it was to stretch Dedmon when they can use that extra $3M to beef up the roster.

I'd rather keep Dedmon on the roster as a role model for the young centers, then exercise the $1m buyout next year, versus stretching him. I suspect Wood will end up in a sign and trade at this point. I'm gaining confidence Weaver will pull something off so we don't lose Wood for nothing.

It really comes down to what Wood wants and Casey's perspective on his fit long term after coaching him for a season.

Hold on.

What happened to, "Dedmond is part of a second move" that everyone was telling me yesterday?

A little nervous. **** is about to go down with us. The one team you can count on to come out guns a blazing is us this off-season. We’re the most active team in the NBA.

Today is huge for us. Hopefully it goes well. Whatever the results, I think our new GM has a legitimate plan. Doesn’t feel like he’s throwing darts. Most media people can’t even guess with him. He’s impressed me so far. Don’t care how many of you are still butthurt over some 2nd round picks. If we’re good again, you’ll get over it. It’s been over a decade since we were relevant. Even the 90s didn’t last this long. We were competitive towards the end with Hill and got over the hump with going to work.

We’ve been bad for so long. I was 10 years old when we won our first championship. I’ve seen it all with this team.

We have to right the ship now.

No, it opens 27 minutes from now, I thought?

In any case, by the tone of the discussion I thought there had been an announcement of some sort that Dedmon would not be traded.

Why has Wood not signed anywhere yet? Wierd as hell. He has to be on the short list of a bunch of NBA teams.

Maybe hoping for more than he's being offered.

I really don't think Wood wanted to come back. The amount he has been talking about his own free agency even asking his followers where he should sign is not an indication of someone planning on staying with his team

I think he felt disrespected.

The Pistons never really showed him he was a priority

I'm sure he has plenty of suitors, and is fielding a lot of calls and will take some time considering his options. He also still might need Detroit's help if he wants to go to a team that doesn't have enough cap to sign him outright. If so, those parameters need to get worked out.

What cap space? Didn't we blow it all on the likes of Dwayne Dedmon, Mason Plumlee, Trevor Ariza, etc?? I dont think we have anything left to offset salaries in a sign and trade.

Most of those moves aren't official right? If not, the cap space technically hasn't been used yet.

Gallanari gets 3 years $61.5 million from the Hawks I thought Wood would get a bigger deal than Gallo. That is one suitor gone for Wood now.
