This is the sort of thing I was worried about with Ball. The circus he brings (his family). Notice LaMelo didn't publicly ask Monk for it (because that'd be dumb) but his brother did via Twitter (which is even more dumb). Monk has already replied saying he can't do that. It's just annoying it was even put out there. Really worried these guys are used to getting what they want. Hopefully LaMelo can fall in line and work to earn his mins. Mitch said that right off the bat, which I agree with and was needed. Guy seems to have a ton of talent and can be a superstar for us, but it won't happen if he's not pushed to work hard and earn it.

I'm with you a little but its all jokes imo

and for whatever isn't..... anything that lights a fire under Malik Monk is positive.

That’s a really good point. This is a huge season for Monk. I don’t know what to expect. He could take a step further and be our best player or just be more like he was the season before last. I am hopeful he takes a step forward and if his Jersey number lights a fire under his ass then let’s go!

To a much lesser extent, wanna know who that reminds me of?

It'd be interesting to run a 2 PG lineup. Ball is big enough to guard SG's.

He can run point on offense, guard the SG. While the other player does the opposite.

Monk may actually be ideal for this, hopefully he can get his act together.

Monk is out of the NBA next year.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

hopefully not, he started making strides last year. His scoring around the basket was a nice surprise, if he fixed his 3 pt shot, we have a player

That’s not happening. It’s far more likely he breaks out than spends his last year in the nba this season. What makes you think he’d be out of the league after this year?

Let's keep this thread about Melo and move the Monk talk to the Monk thread.

Been binging on LaMelo interviews all day. I actually like his personality quite a bit. He's confident, positive, attentive and relaxed. He has a quarterbacks demeanor, calm, cool, collected. He's gonna look killer in that mint. He's gonna glam up the Hive and be the best entertainer we've seen in a long time. And JB's apparently not worried about his shot.

Might be cherry-picking, but any port in a storm:

In a video for 8 in the Box Productions earlier this summer, I detailed how the Miami Heat relentlessly picked on poor Kemba Walker in the Eastern Conference Finals. My main takeaway was how important a guard’s height was to a baseline of acceptable defense, as the Heat’s Tyler Herro largely escaped the same ridicule simply due to the fact that he’s six inches taller than Walker. Simply being bigger dissuades large ball handling wings from backing a guy down and shooting over him possession after possession. LaMelo being 6-foot-7 makes him one of the tallest point guards in the NBA the day he gets drafted, and therefore, not the bullseye of opposing playoff prowlers.

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, one of the best in the NBA Draft Coverage business, who explained to me why he too believes in LaMelo Ball the defender.

“I think LaMelo was terrible on defense on the whole this year because of largely engagement and effort level issues. Also has some real mechanical flaws in terms of his stance, and he got pushed around a lot due to his lack of strength currently. But when LaMelo was engaged, he showed some real potential rotating around the court and knowing where to be. When he wants to do it, he reads the court and diagnoses what’s happening on it faster than anyone else out there. He’s a basketball genius. So if he wants to be a good defender, I think he can probably be a good defender once he gets stronger. But it’s up to him.”

It would be good for Melo to watch a billion hours of Shaun Livingston’s tape to see how effective he was at using his height and length to take advantage of smaller defenders with his mid range game.

Livingston’s mid range game might not have been super flashy, but it was measured, deliberate and effective.

lamelo is getting the franchise player treatment but he literally changes nothing about our situation, team direction, or timeline
