For $25+ million over 4 years and the expectation that he'd be the no.1 option on this team yeah it would not be a good signing. It would be a half baked signing that the Knicks should be avoiding.

I'm not sure he necessarily cares about being the number one option. The way I see it is that if you basically have no good players, it makes it harder for the younger players to develop. I'm just thinking that adding some shooting and playmaking could help take the pressure off guys like RJ and Obi. No, I don't think Van Vleet is worth a max; however, if it came to a choice between him and Westbrook, I would take him any day of the week because he's younger, makes less money, and won't crowd out any chance for player development.
