Daring to dream that Portis can get his career back on track alongside Giannis in Bud’s system.

Bucks sign Bobby Portis

Hollinger on Portis:

“Portis is a serviceable backup big at power forward and center, although his pick-and-roll defensive shortcomings will likely make him unplayable in the postseason. At 25 there is some upside here, but I had him rated as a minimum guy and was a little surprised to see him get two years at the biannual exception of $3.6 million.”

The silence on this board relative to the last few days is pretty telling.

Hollinger again doesn’t watch much basketball. If he did he’d understand that the bucks literally just drop the big back to the paint in PNR defense

Decent pickup for some front-court depth. He plays hard and can hit a three. Similar drop-back defender that Brook is so should fit with Bud's defensive scheme. If nothing else it adds some youth to the roster.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

I don’t know how Hollinger can think Portis would go for the vet minimum in this market.

Hollinger is a tool.

And the Grizz FO has been doing incredibly ever since he left.

Good move. Can spread the floor and may even punch someone. This team is quite soft and passive so this is good.
In reference to our title winning year

Hollinger is just going off his new player value formula, however flawed that is. Still, yeah, he's not moving the needle anywhere but someone would give him more than a minimum.

Also, I think Portis will look much different after a half season with Suki. He actually showed really good feet in college but really regressed physically with the Bulls, as all players do there. He's just been in the wrong place his whole pro career.

Didn't Giannis really like Portis? I remember a game where after we won, Giannis immediately ran to Portis and talked him up.

Giannis likes him because he plays hard. He always seemed to enjoy the challenge of defending Giannis. Hope he brings energy and toughness and only punches opponents.

I can't say I'm playing hopscotch on the sidewalk over this, it will have to grow on me. Isn't this the guy who said the Bucks will "pay for it" by not drafting him, after he got drafted by our most hated rival? Pretty sure I put him on the crap list at that point.

Honestly, when giannis is getting too frustrated in the playoffs, which usually happens, portis will easily be the first to put someone on their a**. Huge positive.
