Lakers have Bird rights on KCP?

Why are they hard capped and can't go over the cap to pay KCP?

AD deal will put them over the tax line too?

The NBA doesn’t have a “hard cap” by default. However, there are certain scenarios in which teams can be hard-capped.

When a club uses the bi-annual exception, acquires a player via sign-and-trade, or uses more than the taxpayer portion ($5,718,000) of the mid-level exception, that club will face a hard cap for the remainder of the league year.

When a team becomes hard-capped, it cannot exceed the “tax apron” at any point during the rest of the league year.

We are one of the teams with a hard cap.

With the salaries on our roster(and Davis' cap-hold), plus the remaining cap-holds(roster is incomplete, 4 more minimum guys are needed and their cap-holds are counted here)...we have between 10-12 mil room for KCP, with his bird-rights.

Him and Rondo are the only guys we can sign for more than the minimum, because we're over the cap but have their bird rights, but not more than 12 mil a year for either one(just one).

We can't realistically resign both if one doesn't take the minimum, which won't happen.

We can create aditional money and room only if we trade the guys who make more than the minimum(Kuzma and McGee), but only like 5 more million, since their two roster spots would have to be replaced by minimum salary cap holds, and that takes up some money as well.

KCP can either take 12 mil, or go for a sign and trade with more money. Only the Knicks and Atlanta are left with big enough cap space to sign him outright for more than 12 mil.

If we do a sign and trade, the player returning for KCP cannot make more than 12 mil per year, or about 17 if we include Kuzma and McGee in the package. That's why the Bogdanovic rumors have surfaced, that seems like the money he'll ask for and get.

Batum is getting waived. He'd be a pretty fit as a versatile 3 and D who can play make.

Nic Batum has been stretched and waived. I could see him being a target for the minimum, we need wings.

He's on his last legs, but still only 32. Has great length and was a solid defender in his prime.
Had a terrible year last year but was mostly hurt and the Hornets were tanking, but solid career. Grossly overpaid but a solid get for the minimum.

I fully expect Clutch Client and Lebron’s friend Tristan Thompson to join the Lakers to replace Dwight

Isn't TT a poor mans Harris at this point? We need a true center and another wing defender at this point.
Bogdan would be nice.
I think I would be okay trading him for Kuz and KCP which is what I hear needs to happen for us to even have a chance.
A starting line up of Bron-Mathews-Bogdan-AD-Mcgee with Harrel and Schroeder leading the second unit would be deadly. Throw in another center to split minutes with Mcgee if Harrel cant keep up and you're good to go.

I think Batum is cooked.

Don't want any part of him frankly.

We really need KCP back not much to do to replace him. Players I’d go after now for min contract Hoping they take it.

PG- Jeff Teague, Tyler Johnson

SG - Austin Rivers, Wayne Ellington, Alonzo Trier,

SF - Treveon Graham, Glenn Robinson III,

PF - Jared Dudley, Rondoe Hollis Jefferson, Markieff Morris,

C - Marc Gasol, Dewayne Dedmon, Nerlens Noel, Boogie Cousins, Thon Maker

I'm just happy Rondo didn't land with the Clippers. He could've legitimately helped them during the playoffs and made it harder for us, just from his experience and knowledge of the game.

On our end now, I really don't know how to feel about the Bogdan rumours. I don't want to give up both Kuz and KCP, two of our key rotation guys during the playoffs, but I do know Kuz's role will be even more diminished due to our recent additions with Schroder and Harell. Kuz will have fewer shots but I still think he'll provide needed value, as he played some solid defense all year and made progress on that end. Adding Bogdan for KCP is a minor upgrade, but one I'd take in a vacuum. I'm only worried we won't have the depth and versatility we had this year which made us so strong. We need at least one more 3&D guy if we lose Kuz and I'm not sure Batum has the footspeed anymore to do so. I would be happy if we kept both Kuz & KCP, signed Batum and try to find another center whilst filling up the rest of our roster with vets/ring chasers for the minimum. Let's also try to give THT some legit minutes this season with the bench to see how it goes. I'm looking forward to that.

Re-sign KCP
Re-sign Markieff
Keep Kuz

Go after one or two of Ellington , Bazemore, and Tristan Thompson to round out the bench

I think Pelinka is targeting Bogdan Bogdanovic. I also heard Pelinka targeting Nic Batum.

I think he shouldn’t overlook the chance to see if he can turn Kuzma, THT, and McGee with cash into Bogi and retain KCP. Then sign Marc for the min to start and being Kieff back with the promise of getting his early bird rights

KCP/Caruso
Bogi/Dennis
Lebron/ Wes
Ad/Kieff
Marc/Trez

I also would be happy with KCP returning and Kuzma being promoted with the promise of we will negotiate an extension with you, then signing Kieff back.

KCP/Caruso
Kuzma/Dennis
Bron/Wes
AD/Kieff
Javale/Trez

Pelinka could possibly pull off two scenarios I am good with.

The one scenario I don’t like is trading Kuzma and letting KCP go for just Bogi.

Dennis/THT
Bogi/Caruso
Bron/Wes
AD/Kieff
Javale/Trez

Denver pulled Torrey Craig's qualifying offer making him a UFA. I think he would be a good addition.

Beat me to it. Yeah any contender should be looking at this guy. Wonder why Denver did this. Might be really going all in with the youth movement
