return2glory wrote:I wonder what Ainge is thinking now? He went all in on Turner. Let’s face it, that had to be the reason he didn’t go for a big in the draft and gave Kanter away.

Unless the Celtics think Timelord and Tacko are ready for big minutes, Ainge f’d up. I don’t think this is the case because he was desperate for Milsap and now Ibaka.

He could have still drafted a big and kept Kanter. He wasn’t expecting Charlotte to come in and f up the potential Pacers/Celtics trade.

Ainge messes up big time. I’m not part of the crowd that wants him fired, but can’t can’t nlame those people for feeling that way either.

Any way you spin it, Danny went all in for Turner and thinking he is always going to get Warren and f’d up.

He was so sure he had the deal down that he got rid of Kanter for nothing. I know lot of people didn’t like Kanter here, but he was a walking double double, or best post player and one of the best rebounders in the league. And it was one game, but he outplayed AD and all the Laker bigs this year.

Ainge needs to own up to this mess.

2 minutes after I posted this, Ainge lands TT. Not bad. You guys are welcome.

Actually really like the TT and Teague signings. Teague is a great backup point guard option and is a starter for bad teams in the league. Very similar to George Hill.

Seems like they need to add a wing though

Clear top 6:

Walker / Smart
Brown
---
Tatum
Thompson / Theis

6, mostly young, candidates for the back of the rotation:

Pritchard
Nesmith / Langford
---
Grant / Ojeleye
Timelord

Pick up a vet ball handler and let those six duke it out for 2.5 spots. Hard to imagine zero of the six will step up. We don't need them all to pan out, just a couple.

Well, we took a short-term step back, but not convinced this is bad in the long-term. We already had too many guys to play the young guys many minutes. That's not great, because we have actually been pretty good at player development.

Guys we've drafted in the mid-1st to early 2nd include Rondo, Bradley, Jefferson, TA, Olynyk, Rozier, Perkins, Semi, and Big Baby. Other like E'Twaun and Gomes (late 2nds), Delonte, and Gerald Green were partially developed here. Theis and Wanamaker not picks, but sorta qualify here. Even Sullinger not bad for his draft position.

We have a little more room to develop Langford, Nesmith, Grant and Robert Williams, Pritchard. Maybe even Tremont, Edwards, or Madar. Chances are very good that we will get some long-term players out of that.

THANK ****

Way more here for Teague than TT.

We need to get playmaking from somehwere.

That said with Kemba/Teague.

Wtf was the point of drafting Pritchard/ Edwards/ Green/ Isreali team PG/ Waters?

if you already know you have 0 plans to open up developmental minutes then why not draft players in positions that you will have minutes for like idk C and PF?

Teague is much needed for this team. We needed someone else to pickup the playmaking slack that Hayward took with him.

32 years old, 6'3" 195, good assist %, 35% career 3pt shooter. not sure on his defense. Fills Wannamaker roll with a lot more pg skills. Killed us without kemba last year when Hayward was out. Wannmaker was good at spot up 3's and driving head first on the fast break. That's it.

How much worse is TT actually than MT?

MT is unquestionable the better asset.

There is a valid argument for either as the better player. Either will fill certain roles better than the other

Defense, athleticism, can hit a 3 and cost $1.75M.

Think about that. The guy is essentially a free player.

BigTrade92 wrote:It’s pretty obvious that Thompson is an improvement over Kanter. My issue is with the money and how Kanter was dealt with.

Someone please explain to me how trading away a serviceable big on a cheap $5 mil contract in this free agency climate for absolutely nothing makes any sense?

This feels like Danny did the guy wrong. He opted-in, meanwhile scrubs like Meyers Leonard are getting $10 mill per year.

Is what it is and he’s a Celtic now, but the Thompson move just screams pivot after the Indiana trade fell apart.

Thompson was not likely plan A (or plan B for that matter).

Kanter may have requested that he play more minutes, or get traded, for all we know. He almost signed with the Blazers last offseason, it's not like we traded him to a foreign land. Danny probably asked for his input.
