I was worried he'd get at least the MLE from some team.

I don't know why, but I wasn't all that worry. He had a small market of teams like Atl and another team I think wanted in. With the way free agency is going, Grizzlies did right by retaining their defensive specialist.

This guy hasn’t finally established himself yet, so he got this contract because he is 22, he is still promising. He has to prove he is worth his contract. I am still angry about his bubble performance. I had been his huge fan.

On twitter they were saying that maybe it is a declining contract. So he will be relatively cheap when we are signing other players/extending our guys.

For what it is worth, this is the max I felt okay going.

So I guess our roster will end up looking something like:

Ja/Tyus/Konchar
Brooks/Melton/Bane/Allen
Winslow/Anderson
JJJ/Clarke/Porter
JV/Dieng/Tillman

Tillie and McDermott on two-ways

But to start the season with Winslow and JJJ out:
Ja/Tyus/Konchar
Melton/Bane/Allen
Brooks/Anderson
Clarke/Porter/Tillie
JV/Dieng/Tillman

I hope it is declining.

I just feel like we have 20m tied up between Melton and Brooks with neither being starter quality SG yet. Don't get me wrong I like Melton and rather have him than not, but I also like to have max cap space next year which is a little harder after this signing.

I would like to see us bring in Torrey Craig on a 2/10m contract to backup Winslow on the wings. SNT info our Conley TPE with a 2nd?

It has to be for 3 years if it is a S&T, but I'd love to do a 3 year deal with the last two years not guaranteed if we could. That way we can waive him if we think we need the cap or else keep him for a couple years if he is playing well. I don't know if he'd do that though.

True on the years, we might not get him without the 2 year guaranteed too. He is an older FA so he might want to lock in a little more money than have both years as options.

I was guessing that we'd waive SuperMario and keep Porter given that we still have a qualifying offer extended to Porter. And yeah Konchar is more SG but I wonder if they'd try to give him run at PG if needed this season. May be how he gets a few minutes given our depth at SG.

Winslow not starting the year, is IMO, a blessing for Memphis.

I think Banes skillset would benefit most despite his inexperience by playing with the only 2 Memphis players who draw the most defensive attention, Jonas & Ja. Vice a versa, they have a need for better spacing which is banes strength as a player. Last year Memphis struggled not only to hit the 3 but to consistently hit the open to wide open 3's, which allowed teams to collapse the paint on Jonas & especially Ja because Jonas also occupies the lane. It's a big reason why Ja struggled the most against teams with good defensive length, like Philly.

With 3J also out to start the year.

Jonas
Clarke
Brooks
Bane
Ja

Dieng/Tillman
Anderson
Melton/Winslow
Allen
Tyus

What's the worse that can happen? (A high 2021 pick ...)

Memphis have nothing to lose at this point of the rebuild. Banes struggles, Winslow can be reinserted into the starting rotation. The real issue to address would be if Banes proves to be a good fit in the starting rotation, what happens to Brooks/Winslow when he returns to play?. If Banes is playing, fitting well next to Ja does Memphis still bump him from the rotation?.

With Dieng & Winslow totaling 32m in expiring value, Memphis could explore taking on salary for future incentives or young talent.

This roster is unbalanced. I expect trades are coming sooner or later. We don’t have a healthy true SF, but have sg position literally crowded.

I think Brooks plays starting SF and Anderson backs him up to start the season. Could also see us going with three guard lineups.

It is hard to count Brooks as an SF. It would be a 3 guards scheme as you rightly noted.

We should trade Grayson to the Kings for Woodard.
