Siakam's contract had nothing to do with Ibaka. We had Ibaka's bird rights and we could've paid him whatever we wanted.

The Raps decided not to give a multi-year deal to a player over 30 years old. They could've offered Ibaka 3/45 and signed him on the first day of free agency. But that's not best for the Raps future.

The Raps want to preserve cap space for 2021. You can't do that by signing Ibaka beyond 1 year.

You pay pascal 4/80 and you can keep ibaka. Bird rights don’t mean they avoid the repeater tax. They would have been crushed with the repeater tax. Paying pascal a max is why ibaka is gone. It’s a terrible contract and constrains us going forward

You're living in a fantasy world if you think Pascal would accept 4/80 or he wouldn't get a max offer this offseason.

Have you been following free agency at all? Grant got 20 mill a year. Bertans got 80 million. Siakam would've have received multiple max offers on day 1 of free agency as the best player on the market.

This is still a playoff team. We'll take a step back this year, but that's almost inevitable after being in the championship hunt two years in a row. FVV/OG/Siakam is a very good core, and this year will be about finding out which of our young pieces can supplement it going forward. Also this may be the year we move Lowry if the right return is available. Then in 2021 you hope to make a big splash in free agency to put us over the top again.

Masai, Bobby et al continue to do a great job.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

You first said Siakam’s contract had nothing to do with us not signing ibaka because of bird rights, and now you say Siakam would not have accepted a lower contract. Which is it?

The point is that siakam’s contract, once again, is the reason we don’t have ibaka. The max contract for siakam was not only devastating, it was an extension and even at 4/100, we still have room to sign ibaka.

Masai is a wizard but that siakam contract will hurt us badly. And already has. Your point about bird rights is not correct

I don't think it's a bad idea to do absolutely nothing this year. Lets not forget, we're still in the middle of a global pandemic where last season was hastily finished and the coming season is anything but a guarantee. At the current pace, the US can reach 500K daily cases by the end of December. Does anyone here think under such a scenario, the NBA season will proceed as normal?

While it is true that we have problems attracting big name free agents, we've also developed a reputation as a preferred destination for young, hungry players with something to prove. In the long run, I think that is more important as the difference in talent level from top to bottom shrinks as the sport grows in popularity.

Siakam's contract had zero impact on Ibaka.

The Raps didnt want to offer Ibaka multiple years to keep him in order to preserve cap space for 2021.

The Raps don't have any chance of landing an impact player without having a solid core in place and that core includes a signed Siakam.

We are saving cap space and playing in Tampa and players have to live away from home. We're done next year already. Just accept it.

The biggest news of the offseason so far isnt any signing it's that Masai structured VV's contract to maximize 2021 cap space.

The only concerning thing regarding Masai is that we dont know if hes here longterm.

not sure what ppl were expecting this offseason. this core's best opportunity to return to contention is clearly via 2021 FA, and Masai isn't jeopardizing that.

They were never going to "compete" for a ring this year so no biggie, it is odd that Masai hasnt signed any of the cheap guys on 1 year deals that have been scooped up.

Can I still make a ridiculous thread/point and still be considered , or did I miss the window ?

Team won a ring... Teams burn through assets to put a quality team of that level in the floor.

It's going to be a few years to build up the assets and develop more players to be great again..and next season is not the season when the team reaches elite status status again.

Find some filler bigs or bigs who need development time, build up assets for another year. Off season 2021.

This makes no sense. Siakams contract is precisely the main reason we are cap constrained in 2021 and could not keep ibaka. Offer siakam 4/100 which I think he takes given it is an extension and we still keep ibaka.

I love Masai but he can make mistakes. He did give javale mcgee 60 million at one point.
