What a difference from when Rubio came in and looked like a kid (that could ball his ass off none the less) to now being the seasoned vet and oldest player on the team.

Unlike when KG came back for the farewell tour, I honestly thing Rubio's best ball is ahead of him. I first expected him to hit his stride when he was 25, but the ACL injury his rookie year and having systems put in place that did not fit his game AT ALL delayed his development a bit.

If he can shoot 35% from 3pt this season and stay healthy, I think he has a big year for us.

On the talk vikes and other Mn sports website we analyzed how taller PGs aged vs shorter. Taller ones tended to get better with age while shorter ones tended to flamed out. Based on this we hated the swapping of Rubio for Teague.

With a new leader in the age clubhouse, Klomp may need to update the list.

I wonder if Rubio and Davis are going to be called Grandpa by the rest of the team.

Going to have to draft a Towns replacement next year. He's getting long in the tooth. Won't fit the young timeline soon. Write him off after this season.

Now if we don't sell out like Thibs did, we may have a good team in a few years when KAT is older.

I think the difference between how you get from one group to the other is by letting your young guys develop and mature. Sure you could also go the Thibs route, but there's a legitimate chance you could cap your ceiling by doing this as we saw. Just giving up and rebuilding has been the name of the Timberwolves franchise for its entire history.

I know people hate to hear this, but Towns and Russell are both still very young, as is the rest of the core. It's just the reality of the situation. But as we go forward, I think you'll see the front office sprinkling in more veterans around the core which will bring the average age up as our core guys get older too.

Very few teams in history were true contenders built around solely young guys 25 and younger. The Spurs had Robinson at the start of their run, and Duncan was 26 by the time they won their second title along with 25-year old "rookie" Ginobili. The Bulls didn't win a title until Jordan was 27. Towns and Russell are not in the middle of their primes, I'm not sure they've even entered their primes yet.

I think these years now are about continuing to figure out what pieces can be kept around our two building blocks. I'm not calling for a tank. I just don't think it's smart to say championship or bust or even playoffs or bust quite yet.

I think you are saynig tank then.

Every season is playoffs or bust. if you aren't chasing it you are tanking it.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
