We need Donte to step his game up significantly if only for asset cultivation purposes.

That said, we could also use Bryn Forbes being good enough (and a good enough fit with the starters) to warrant Donte coming off the bench in lineups that need more ballhandling and have other shooters on the court.

Really don't know if that'll happen but he's an argument for it:

But is being a reserve the right role for Forbes? No, he should be in the starting lineup because Forbes has excelled as a spot-up shooter throughout his career. He has converted 41.7 percent of catch and shoot threes on 2.9 attempts per game.

The field goal percentage helped him generate an average of 3.6 points per game for the San Antonio Spurs over the past four seasons, which comes out to 40.4 percent of his scoring output.

Catch-and-shoot field goal attempts accounted for 70.7 percent of Forbes’ 3-pointers as he has a career shooting percentage of 40.0 percent from behind the arc on 4.1 attempts per game. Forbes produced 4.8 points per game from his 3-point attempts, 53.9 percent of his offensive production, as he has averaged 8.9 points per game during his career.

Forbes’ shooting ability makes him an ideal candidate for the team’s starting lineup as Antetokounmpo’s supporting cast spends a significant amount of time in the role as a floor spacer. For example, Middleton and Eric Bledsoe have averaged 4.3 and 6.0 threes per game, respectively, over the last two seasons, more than 30 percent of their field goal attempts. At least 45.3 percent of those 3-point attempts are via the catch and shoot variety.

Forbes is also better suited to thrive in the role than Donte DiVincenzo, who is currently projected to start according to ESPN. DiVincenzo has only made 32.1 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes on 2.6 attempts per game over his first two seasons. He only generated 2.5 points per game on catch and shoot threes for Milwaukee.

More importantly, DiVincenzo’s offensive production is dependent on how much time he spends as a ballhandler. For example, DiVincenzo averaged a career-high 48 touches per game from March 4 to the 8.

I still think you give DDV 15-20 games as starter to see where his three point shot is.

]It ultimately shouldn't matter who is starting. George Hill often played a more pivotal role than Bledsoe, coming off of the bench. Starters don't have to be the closers.

Maybe you want to start Donte, because of chemistry & earning that spot last year. And because you traded him before the league cried tampering. Hopefully he gets over going out for Bogdanovic, when it comes to chemistry with Giannis especially.

I think Bud should have handed out swords and promised they would all commit hara-kiri if they don't win a chip this year.

If Giannis signs the supermax extension this week, trade Middleton and Pat for Harden.

Starting: Jrue, DDV, Harden, Giannis, Brook
Bench: Augustin, Forbes, Merrill, Nwora, Thanasis, Craig, Wilson, Portis

That and the fact that they had Jrue on his phone and a good chunk of the interview kept getting cut off because of wifi connection lol.

Spent some time reading Spurs fans thought on Forbes..

They seem to feel that he is best suited for the bench due to being a severe liability on defense. If that is true then Donte starting is what's best. We dont need Donte's offense with Giannis, Khris, and Jrue on the court. We definitely need Forbes's shooting on that second team.

I realize that Bud loves to stagger but i guesz my argument is that Forbes shouldnt be asked to defend starter caliber offensive players.

The more i think about it i have to wonder if Forbes will even see the court past the first round. You cant just trot a guy out there that cant defend.

Think the opposite is much more true these days. You can hide a bad defender, but guys that are complete offensive liabilities are gonna kill your spacing against playoff defenses. If Pat or Craig go cold from 3PT range, which they have a tendency to do, then I'd much rather have Forbes out there.

Yea I love Donte, but I'd start Forbes. I think his shooting is a perfect fit next to Jrue, Giannis, & Khris and you can hide his defense easier. The second team shouldn't need his offense as much considering you have guys like DJA & Portis off the bench and in theory there shouldn't be too much time where one of the Core four isn't out there

Truthfully I think Dj Augustin and Jrue Holiday are gonna open up the season as the starting back court. Just a hunch but no one seems to talk about that and Augustin is now our 2nd highest paid guard... Forbes and DDV off the bench makes sense...

Yea the team that just smacked us in the POs started a liability on D who could shoot and they made it just fine. Also, starting Forbes spaces the floor not just for Giannis but Khris and Jrue as well. Id see if it can work, predicated on him being an elite shooter of course.

Middleton for Lavine/Thad Young (Or Otto). Doubt CHI bites though.
