The Atlanta Hawks offered the Sacramento Kings a 2022 first round pick belonging to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a sign-and-trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic.

The Kings rejected the offer, which led the Hawks to be concerned that their four-year, $72 million offer sheet to Bogdanovic would be matched.

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/260706/Hawks-Offered-2022-First-Round-Pick-From-Thunder-To-Kings-For-Bogdan-Bogdanovic

Did the full article have any salary going back to SAC? Or were they getting a TPE+ the pick? If the latter, just more indecisiveness.

Excerpt:
One final note on this front: During those two days where the Kings pondered the decision of whether to match Bogdanovic’s deal, the Hawks were concerned they might not land him, in large part, because of what had taken place before the offer sheet had been signed. Sources say Atlanta offered Sacramento its 2022 first-round pick (via Oklahoma City) in a previous sign-and-trade scenario and was rebuffed. And while that pick wasn’t an asset to write home about — it’s protected top 14 in 2022 and becomes two second-rounders (2024 and 2025) if it’s not conveyed — it was better than nothing.

There’s no clarity on why Sacramento would hold onto him at one point only to let him go at the later juncture. But the Hawks — who had a tremendous offseason by adding Danilo Gallinari, Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn and Bogdanovic, among others — were more than happy to benefit from the change of heart.

Never dull in Sacramento, would be nice if we got more context here.

1. Was the offer rejected with the Kings expecting to get DVV?
2. Amick mentioned Vivek and meddling around the time the Hawks offered him the contract, did Vivek tell McNair to hold off?
3. Did the Kings think they could move Buddy and keep Bogi but fail to get anything for Buddy?
4. Did the Kings actually have an offer on Buddy, and McNair decided to keep Bogi but Vivek said you can't trade Buddy?

Jeez, annoying.

Amick added additional context to the story.

In fairness to the Kings and first-year general manager Monte McNair, there’s more context here that I’ve gleaned since the publication of this piece this morning. Sources say the Hawks’ offer of the 2022 first rounder also included the Kings taking on Tony Snell and his expiring deal worth $12.1 million. What’s more, sources say there was no clarity given (or asked for) regarding the exact size of the Bogdanovic deal and, thus, made it tougher for the Kings to determine whether they’d want to match if — as would happen — he ultimately signed an offer sheet with the Hawks. There was a time element attached to the offer, too, with the Hawks asking for an answer within an hour and the Kings, who had asked for some of Atlanta’s younger players to no avail, ultimately declining. There’s strong reason to believe the Hawks would have done the deal without Snell and just for the 2022 first-rounder — which, again, will very likely turn into two seconds — but sources say that scenario was not discussed.

That's far more reasonable than original reporting that seemed insane

yeah if the deal was Snell and that pick and you have to decide in an hour, they were right to turn them down. Not just because that pick isn't worth the financial outlay of Snell but to let the Hawks know hey you can't push me around. If that's really how it went down doesn't surprise me they made Atlanta sweat a decision for the 2 days. No good reason for the Hawks to put them on a clock with no other competition for Bogdan.

Yeah I can't fault the Kings for turning it down under these circumstances. The fact that the Hawks used such hardball tactics would have indicated to me that they had genuine concerns that the Kings would match and, if so, I'd want to know what the deal was if I were the Kings.

Not necessarily. They have enough expiring between Green, Ferguson, and Scott to match. Now why they'd be interested in him after already getting Curry is a different question.

Heild and Curry would actually be pretty good together. Similar to THJ/Curry. Curry is great when he’s on but there are some nights where he’s off. On those days THJ usually picked up the slack. Then there were nights where they were both on.

Philly doesn't have nearly as good an offense as Dallas where they can just outscore everyone. The combined zero defense between them presents an issue.

The defense will definitely suffer. That’s why the Mavs went a different direction. The Sixers have potential for a great offense though. If you had Curry/Heild firing from outside it would make it extremely difficult to double Embiid. He’d be able to operate in the paint with just single coverage.

Kings were willing to pay 12 million to get DDV. I don't see why not take Snell and lotto protected first. Could showcase Snell for more picks or have a useful vet..

Because the 1st was almost certainly going to turn into 2 2nd rounders. $12m for 2 2nd rounders isn't a very good use of resources.

The 7th and 8th seed in the east won 33 and 35 games this year. I don't think it's thats certain that the Hawks miss playoffs the next 3 or 4 seasons.

Is it crazy to think Snell could net a first round pick from a playoff at the deadline?

a 1st with an awful contract attached? sure. Snell has no value by himself except maybe a 2nd round pick from a team really hurting with wing depth.

Was thinking more of a playoff team turning non rotation players into a rotation player. He overpaid by bout 5 million but his skillset isn't useless.
