Predict Blazers # of wins in the 2020-2021 season

Post#1 » by monopoman » Thu Dec 10, 2020 3:08 am

Well most of us vastly overestimated how well the Blazers would do last season, but that season was a rough one on the injury front and that really impacted things.

I am now going to compile predictions for this season assuming all games are played we are looking at a 72 game season. I will be betting the Blazers end up 50-22 after the end of this season, I am impressed with the pickups they have made and think this year the Blazers will roll over most opposition.

There are no prizes for this just bragging rights at the end of the season for those that get it right on the money.

Edit: downgrading the number of wins by a bit here.

If there are fewer than 72 games, then closest to the win percentage gets bragging rights.

EDIT: Prior to the regular season on December 16, I have chosen to bag my previous prediction with less optimism, yet still having hope. HoopsFanAZ: 44-28.

CoVid makes the consistent health of the players and/or schedule itself very hard to predict, but ASSUMING the best 75% of our roster is good for the majority of the year, I'd say we win 75% of our games. Any change in the wind, then whatever. I expect this entire season to be a ****show for most of the league, so it'll be fun just to watch everyone and I'll be grateful for the Timberpups, Suns and some other teams to help ease the tides for me.

I'm cashing in my bragging rights for winning last year's contest (well, tied for first anyway). I obviously got it by being way less optimistic than the rest of you. I'm upbeat though because of the off-season moves. To put it one way, PDX added two starters without giving up anybody who would start on this team. The bench looks better, too. 47-25.

It was 21 years ago, the last time Blazers won 50 or more games out of 72.

The regular season is about attrition, and the Blazers are pretty deep and still fairly young. Short off-season, condensed regular season. Can see a lot of stars taking load management nights off. Realistic chance we might not to start every 4th quarter down 10 points.

Vegas has us at 41.5. I like the over. Not as thrilled about our chances in the playoffs, but I can see this being a strong regular season team.

I like the over too. Do you remember what the over/under was last year? I think it was 37.5. As bad as last season was, Blazers won 36 out of 75 games. That was without a big man, other than Hassan, after Collins went down the 3rd game. Blazers had no big man 5 of the games Hassan missed, all losses. And, there was games Hassan played injured.

Many are hugely over overestimating the expected impact of the RoCo and DJJ additions. The biggest positive additions are Nurk, Kanter, and Giles. And, Collins is back after 1 month. That's 4 good big men instead of 1. All 4 chosen by Blazers ahead of the 1 big man we had last season.

52 wins is my magic number assuming an 82 game season .63 winning percentage regardless). Is adding defense and a starter that significant of a difference? My gut says yes

The main improvement on defense should be more options to defend the rim. Last season, no matter what the opposing offenses did, we had to drop Hassan into the paint. That gifted to opponents the opportunities to run stunts to get wide open 3's. This year we have Collins, RoCo, DJJ, and Giles, all who can defend the rim and the 3 point line.

46 wins, which should be good enough for 4th place finish in super competitive west. That would match us against Lakers in the 2nd round. Second and out will be the outcome, unless the Lakers arrive banged up.

47 wins. It's going to be a wild ride. I'm not as bullish on some of the teams in the west due to injury history.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

It's going to be a very tough western conference and let's all pray there will be a full 72 games
without any postponements due to Covid.

I'll opt for 41 games in a 72 game season.

52 wins and WCF barring injury/illness.

Predicting we lose CJ for an extended period and don’t miss a beat.

42 wins, I dropped it today Dec 19 after watching the preseason games, and that number may be too generous

I really wanna go with 50 wins, but am going to settle on 48 wins. That's a .667 win percentage.
