Giannis is gone: Mavs Next Target
Personally I would like to see the Mavs target Draymond or Aaron Gordon in trade at the deadline and then target Kyle Lowrey in the off season (along with resigning JRich and THJ).

Draymond is washed imo. If gsw plays like tonight they wobt even make yhd playin tournament. Gordon is just overvalued and hardly see us senz a first since powell is what we gog to match with

James Harden.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Draymond is 30 years old and still a high level defender that can hit the 3 at a pretty consistent rate. He would be great on this team. Gordon is not the defender Dray is but is more of an offensive threat and only 25 years old. He also makes about $10M less per season than Draymond. Dray would add to the championship pedigree though.

They supposedly liked Dinwiddie around the draft and Allen is a Texas kid who fits a position of need. Both are FAs.
Dinwiddie l T.Terry l T.Burke
Richardson l J.Green
Doncic l DFS l Iwundu
KP l Kleiber
Allen l Powell
Doubtful guards and centers is what seek since Mavs got most of that atm. Probably PF/SFs they want. Allen could be KPs backup if they get rid of Powell and Boban somehow, but still doubtful and not likely we can dump Powell. Dinwiddie I dont know what they would do with, expiring iirc and would probably be far down the guard rotation. Also doubt Mavs want expirings that want to be payed, rough enough to lock in Richardson and THJ and whoever more expires this season.
My guess is that its like Kawhi and Jrue, lock up the expirings, and last try to land 1 of the RFA, maybe Markkanen, might be a decent fit behind Kleber in PF spot.
Its more like this:
Doncic, Brunson, Burke, Terry
Richardson, THJ, Green, Hinton
DFS, THJ, Iwundu
Kleber, Johnson, Bey
KP, WCS, Powell, Boban
Might have missed someone. But DFS probably shouldnt be first choice at SF, thats where the biggest need is imo, 2nd biggest is PF. C only as I said if you can drop Powell and Boban
Would Dallas take on Eric Gordon if it minimized what they need to give up for PJ Tucker in the case Houston goes full teardown?

Doubt it. Its an awful lot of money for an awful lot of years. But houston is one of the teams i watch least, so cant say for sure. Another issue is matching salaries. Can only see powell get moved and thats 10m. Maybe they woulz consider boban too but thats only anoghef 5m

I would personally try to chase a large Wing that can defend itself as a N1 target.
-Anunoby-make great offer and see what happens
-Isaak-make a big offer and see what happens
-A.Gordon (Commerce)
-O.Porter..for the right money.
Trying to keep JRich ... then take a look at ...
-M.Conley for the right money
-G.Dragic if Miami does not exercise ... for the right offer
Combo Anunoby or Isaak+Conley is perfec for me..

I'm still out on this. I guess of who is left as a FA I'm now a Gobert man even though that's not ideal with KP. But he's clearly the best player available.
But I think a deadline trade is something to really look for. And no the little Mavs don't want Zach LaVine and yes obviously they have the assets to get him. Beal is the dream, but they really don't have assets for him and Washington isn't moving him.
So I think Dallas keeps tabs on both of the Hawks free agents and how that goes. I think they should poke around Draymond. If he looks back to form but the Warriors don't I'd see if he could be pried free.
But I know this, they will be active. And when a team with some good players with big contracts is ready to start over Dallas will be calling to set them free.
I think you guy can contend this year and are close to serious contender. With that case I wonder who they can pick up at the deadline to push the over the hump

Re: Giannis is gone: Mavs Next Target
As cap currently stands, Mavs would have around 20 mil if they don't activate WCS team option even with J. Richardson cap hold, and they can bring that number up to 27 mil. if they stretch Powell (big if given their relationship, but imo he was pretty bad in two games so far, and would get his money).
I think they could throw that money at some of the RFAs, since they need primairly need forwards, and best of them are restricted. Would probably have to overpay, but this is last summer for a while they will have significant cap space, so it is time to spend it and lock in a group that would compete for next four years.
I can see them going after OG Anunoby or J. Collins, who are imo harder to get, or could even throw money and hope they resurect Markkanen or that Isaac's body holds up.
Then resign Josh Richardson with Bird rights, and Hardaway jr. on MLE, could even think of retaining J. Johnson or even bringing back WCS for BAE, and you have a really good, balanced and talented group, with great chemistry.

Re: Giannis is gone: Mavs Next Target
Right now, our biggest need is to fill that PF position. Absolutely NO free agents jump my eyes, so I'd use that money to re-sign J-Rich. I love our roster, so I wouldn't want to involve anyone besides expirings (unless things go bad). Realistically these are the names I could see that doesn't need too much value to get:
- OPJ (CHI) - Injury prone, doesn't fit the rebuild.
- Griffin (DET) - Short, but bad contract. Doesn't fit the rebuild and takes minutes away from the young pieces.
Both could probably be obtainable for expirings (THJ/Johnson) and 2nd rounders. To me they are worth a shot to see if they can get back to theur former selves. Playing with Doncic and co. should put them in a confortable situation to do so.

Otto Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon are my two biggest wants out of guys who might realistically be available. I see OPJ as being like THJ+DFS combined(if healthy) and Aaron Gordon as a much-better defensively version of Dwight Powell.
I'd love Anunoby but can't see any way Toronto lets go of him, especially now that the Giannis dream is dead.

I think Grant from the Pistons would be a good fit but don't know if his contact would effect chemistry negatively considering he isn't any more valuable than the bargain Kleber.

This was for free agency targets.. just sign them.
I assumed they let TJ and Boban go, and keep J.Rich, thus the roster above.

Re: Giannis is gone: Mavs Next Target
Definitely NO to Otto Porter and Zach lavine. I live in MD, so I saw several years of Otto, the guy has no drive. He'll put up stats his contract year, and then float around doing nothing, its what infuriated Beal/Wall during his Wiz tenure. Lavine is Kevin martin 2.0, all offense, absolutely zero defense. Not a guy you pair with Luka.

It's not a necessity ... but I wouldn't rule out Hield, ... Hield + Luka could be fun. Maybe K. Love ... ?? is a huge risk ..

I would roll the dice and go after Jonathan Issac. Its a risk, but has a huge payoff. Offer him 4/100M w/ a TO on Y4. Probably need to stretch Powell to get it done, as well as waive WCS and renounce THJ. But you can keep Richardson's bird rights and resign him after the Issac deal.
G - Jalen Brunson / Trey Burke / Tyrell Terry
G - Josh Richardson / Josh Green
F - Luka Doncic / Dorian Finney-Smith / Tyler Bey
F - Jonathan Issac / Dorian Finney-Smith / Tyler Bey
C - Kristaps Porzingis / Maxi Kleber / BOBAN
Does Orlando match that? Also, not sure that bench has enough scoring.

I also fine with Issac. But maybe the Mavs could trade for Buddy now. Hield wants to play for the Mavs. And the asking price might not be very high.

I understand the hope. But if the Hawks are faltering, they will probably replace Coach Pierce before they trade Collins, Gallinari, or Bogdan. That is to much talent not to believe those players should be helping out for the immediate future.
If the Timberwolves are floundering, I think a call to the Hawks would be appropriate to see what they can get for KAT.

I like Buddy for what he is. A dead eye three point shooter and scorer. I prefer Bogdan because he is cheaper and more versatile. But I would not have been complaining if Buddy was who the Hawks got.
Rumor is they want a pick. Something like THJ and Green maybe?
