Not entirely true, especially factoring in injuries. But they shouldn't matter much through at least 2025.

Re: Giannis SIGNS
We are so god damn lucky to have Giannis. This city is so lucky. For all the heart break in Wisco Sports we've been blessed with studs (Arod, Farve, Yelich, Braun, Giannis).

Re: Giannis SIGNS
There's an alternative history where we make moves like the following:
Plan A (which I could see the Bucks being happy with)
Trade #1: Bucks trade Hill + 24 pick for Schroder
Trade #2: Bucks trade Bledsoe + Donte for Bogdan
Plan B (which I think we balked at the Oladipo price due to health and contract concerns vs Holiday)
Trade #1: Bucks trade Hill + Donte + 24 pick + protected future first for Oladipo
Trade #2: Bucks trade Bledsoe + future first (unprotected?) for Bogdan
Based on available reporting it seems like we could have pulled off Plan A as outlined above if we would have agreed to send Hill to OKC before the Lakers beat us to the punch.
Few notes on Plan B:
In Trade #1 I'm not sure if the additional future first would have nabbed us Dipo but our other offers were reportedly rejected:
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2919681-inside-the-botched-sign-and-trade-that-could-send-giannis-antetokounmpo-packing
In Trade #2 I'm also am not sure what kind of draft assets would have equated to Donte who would be going to Indiana in Plan B. Either way the total draft assets wouldn't have come close to what we sent out for Holiday.

Pacers All-Star Victor Oladipo was discussed in numerous trade scenarios, sources said, but Indiana ultimately declined Milwaukee's advances. At one point, that included a discussion of Donte DiVincenzo, George Hill and the No. 24 pick in the 2020 draft.

Boston reportedly offered Hayward plus their 3 1st rounders this year (ended up being Nesmith, Bane, Pritchard).
I don't think we overpaid (Giannis is signed long term) and we don't know what other teams offered.
yeah i read that too. considering what charlotte paid him im assuming they could have ended up getting 5 picks one way or the other with boston too
Charlotte is not a great indication of anything. MJ once took Miles Plumlee of the Bucks' payroll for basically expiring contracts if I remember correctly.

I think this plan was definitely doable, would've been interesting for sure. Neither of those players are as good as Jrue but would've created a more well rounded starting 5. Depends what you think of Schroder I guess.

Or later on, package 2-3 guys + the future picks for a major upgrade somewhere. It's fair for people to say they don't think it would have happened, but to act like they're sure it wouldn't and couldn't happen is ridiculous.

Re: Giannis SIGNS
Disagree with this idea that Milwaukee needs to pay a premium to land stars in trades. Presti in OKC did pretty alright landing Paul George for nothing but Oladipo and Sabonis (at the time no one thought either was an All-Star). Smart GM-ing knows no market size. But twiddling your thumbs and hoarding your mediocre assets for the hope that "don't worry, a better player will come along soon!" is also a potential recipe for disaster.
The Bucks had to walk a fine line here. My gut says that Holiday wasn't necessarily gonna be the difference between Giannis signing the super-max or not, but we shouldn't act like we know either way. Horst saw a Top-25ish player readily available and he pounced on it. He didn't pull a Danny Ainge and haggle over value, only to end up empty handed. My qualms with the ultimate asset price aside, if the alternative was Bogdanovic, Hill, and our mid-late 1st rounders intact, I'm not so sure I still don't take Holiday over that if the goal is to win a championship.

Plan A is the most shuffling of deck chairs moves of all time. Yuck.

If he's playing more minutes, it means only one thing: That they aren't as dominant as they were last year.
With greater injury risk, not a good thing by any stretch of the imagination.
He can get "rest" during blowouts. And I'm not talking mid-40's or anything like that. 35-38 nightly. I don't want Bud to somehow rationalize that "because Giannis only played 30 minutes in the regular season he can only play a couple more in the playoffs." Thats ridiculous. Its go time.
Only 3 players averaged over 35 minutes last year, and none of them averaged 36.
I get why you think playing him more would be a good idea, but it's not. If you're really concerned about his endurance, you put him on a bike or elliptical for 20 minutes after you take him out of a game.

ABucksFan wrote:This draft was pretty weak IMO. Obviously you never know, but 3 draft picks and Hayward is meh. Rather gamble on the unprotected and future picks. I do think we over-paid for Jrue, but like I said I get it. Giannis signed so that's all that matters.
Yes so far the gamble paid off. of course something unforeseen could happen with an injury but for the most part the big risk of handing out 5 straight top 10 picks is gone. View the trade as essentially 3 late 1sts (and the players of course) and it's not aaaaas bad. The really only big risk as of now is the furthest out unprotected if Giannis is gone by then, but you have to give up something.

Nice strawman. I've yet to see anyone say the Bucks can't trade for a star player. To the contrary it's you running around acting like it's so easy. In your world, they simply could've used this bundle of assets saved by acquiring Schroeder, Oladipo, or both instead of what was spent on Holiday, and parlayed that into the next unknown star to hit the market. Without regard to fit, the chance of being easily outbid, or the player's willingness to come here. It doesn't get more naive than that. And I'll continue to use that word because that's exactly what this is.
