we tried to see if DSJ could play point by bringing him off the bench. didn't work out. IQ came in, and the more rope he was gradually given, the more he outplayed both DSJ and payton. now we know, DSJ doesn't need to be taking up space in our point guard rotation
i think thibs played that perfectly. it feels like merit is winning out, and everyone's being given a fair chance
next up we should see what frank can do in the role bullock played last night. see if we can't ease him into it, off the bench just like dennis. if knox looks that much better playing with other smart ball-sharers, i'd imagine we'd see at the very least a modest boost in frank's utility as well. as a matter of fact, the only stretch of knicks basketball i enjoyed last season outside of the mavs games was a period where frank RJ and knox shared the floor. similar vibes to these last 2 games: quick movement on and off ball, intense effort
if he doesn't cut it after being given a proportionate opportunity to the one DSJ was given, that's one more trade piece and a little marie kondo for our front office
(if coin tosses are any indication, DSJ's utterly tails performance hopefully means frank'll get a heads up. one of these two top 9 2017 draft picks has to be a useful player)
