Pierce is a HOF Candidate for 2021, and he'll probably get in because the basketball HOF seemingly has a lower threshold and his association with the Celtics. But there was never a single point in Pierce's career where I thought he was a top 10 player in the league.

Not sure about that either way but 10 All Star Games is a lot. There's one eligible guy with more than 6 who isn't in the Hall and he retired in 1962 (Larry Foust, 8).

I'd have to look back, but I think many of those All-Star appearances came in part because the East wasn't especially deep for the bulk of his career.

Hard to argue that Pierce doesn't have a Hall of Fame resume based on precedent, but to me he's firmly in that fringe tier of guys who only make it because "they were just good enough for just long enough". Dude might be the most overrated player I consistently see in Top-50 or Top-75 all-time discussions. Before KG, him, and Ray bailed out each others' legacies, I'm not so sure he doesn't wind up with a Joe Johnson type career. You could probably pick out a few seasons where he was a borderline Top-10ish guy, but I'll echo the sentiment that he was never someone you looked at as some bonafide superstar.

I don't know, man. I'm not saying you have to look back, but there are literally only 15 guys who've scored more points in the NBA than him. 18 if you count points scored in the ABA. He was a great player and a very deserving HoFer.

I think you are all correct. Pierce was never the best scorer nor the best wing of his era. But he was good enough, for long enough, to be considered a hall of famer. How many guys are “enshrined” In the bball HOF? Google tells me 178. Im pretty sure Paul Pierce is one of the top 178 basketball players of all time: LA prep star, prolific scorer, olympian, ten time all star..
Yeah, really good but not “all time.” Seems fair.

I don't think compiling stats is enough to make you a Hall of Famer, but I also admit my view of Pierce as a player - someone who was good, but not great for most of his career and was never a top tier superstar - is a subjective analysis.

pauI pierce made 10 aIIstar games but was never a starter. he did make 4 aII nba teams but 3 of those times was as a third teamer. I dont think he ever was perceived as a top 10 pIayer in the Ieague but Iooking back at the time in was in the Ieague i doubt very much there was 10 guys who you wouId trade his career for considering the Iength and consistency. automatic HOFer imo.... the basketbaII version of carI yastrzemski except trade the Ione mvp yaz had for a ring and a finaIs mvp for pierce to make it even

based on websters dictionary the definition of haII of fame pIayer is that of having an iIIustrious career. the definition of iIIustrious is notably or brilliantly outstanding because of dignity or achievements or actions. hopefuIIy this sheds some Iight.

People get really weird about Hall of Fame arguments and tend to apply their own standards when the reality is they are sports museums. Basketball is a little loose who they let in and that's fine as long as they are consistent.
I never liked Pierce buts he's a worthy HOF guy. Wins shares is far from a perfect stat but Paul is sitting at 150 career WS which is 22nd all time right behind Magic Johnson. For reference Scottie Pippen is at 125 WS the same as my guy Shawn Marion who I think absolutely belongs in the HoF but is going to be an interesting argument when his time comes. Personally I think Marion was born a little too early because we'd appreciate his impact more now with all the advanced stats.
Side note on HoF, baseball basically ruined thiers by not knowing what to do with the seroid era. To just pretend guys like Bonds never existed is absurd especially when the league didn't even test for PEDs and knew it was going on but didn't care at the time. It's the hypocritical bs ever.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

NBA regular season games are pretty meaningless but I still enjoy the games. I don't give a crap about the Lakers/Clippers game but Warriors/Nets should be fun tonight. And tomorrow Pelicans/Raps and Mavs/Suns.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I agree with whoever said you're all correct
Pierce was never a superstar, but he's also clearly a HOF based upon their credentials for enshrinement. This seems more like a conversation of what it should mean to be a HOFer and why the current system sucks, as opposed to a conversation about Pierce himself.
And I, for one, am hyped for both games tonight. I don't care about the LA teams, but there certainly is some very NBA-style drama there. Clippers' offseason makes things especially interesting.

I want to watch but unfortunately they made opening night the same night as The Bachelorette finale so I guess America will just have to catch the highlights of the games later.

Pierce is a HOF guy for me, Ray is in and they are similar enough career wise.
