[Solved] Ja Morant is light years ahead of Rj Barrett

Post#1 » by iLLmatic860 » Fri Dec 25, 2020 9:42 pm

Thread inspired by the Ja thread on Gb but I honestly been keeping this opinion to myself for awhile now. I heard alot of talk on how Knicks didnt just miss out on Zion but also missed out on Morant. But I honestly think RJ can end up being better. We all see how long it took for Ingram. I feel like RJ will have a similar trajectory.

This is a wings league and if RJ keeps progressing he just will have the advantage to be more impactful than Ja especially with a jump shot. Obviously Ja passed the eye test and is a much more exciting player than Rj

But Imo Ja just plays way to reckless and I fear that he will get injured eventually with that style of play

Rather revisit thread when Randle and Payton are gone and RJ has total control.

It’ll be a tall order if he is eventually better. Ja right now out the gate is an amazing player whose shown the ability to not only dominate games himself but also uplift his teammates

Better? Better how? Morant plays PG so I judge him differently than RJ. Morant is becoming one of the, if not the, best PGs in the league. RJ didn't even make the all-rookie team last season. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. lol

Yes, I think he will, mainly because I feel like a wing is just more valuable than a PG. At the end of the day JA is still only 6'3" and will have a big target on his back in playoff games with teams seeking him out for mismatches. He's better now but as they age and RJ gets stronger he'll close the gap between them, and eventually he'll be better than him.

You need to be some kind of generational PG to have a team built around you like Curry, I don't think JA is that.

It’ll be interesting to see if Morant can have a long career with his style. He initiates and takes a lot of contact.

No. If Ja was on the Knicks though, my answer would be yes.

Said it before the 2019 draft lottery, RJ will be a better player than Morant long-term.

It will just take him longer to reach his ceiling.

I just think RJ's power game as a wing will have more gravity than Morant's game, in addition to being more durable. I also think he's more of a culture changer than Morant.

Morant is clearly ahead right now. He's a stud and his game has translated immediately thanks to his otherworldly athleticism. RJ was more raw coming out of college but I believe his game will be more nuanced and more impactful than Morant after he makes the leap.

I think RJ will be good for longer. Mordant is going to be like Iverson. Once the athleticism goes ... yikes. Morant is small and light. That doesn't translate to long careers.

I think when they both hit their peaks, it’ll come down to preference. Rj would definitely have to become a good to great defender tho. Cause I think Ja will always be more electric on offense

It's going to be hard for RJ to be seen as better compared to a PG who has the ball in their hands as much as Ja does and was given the keys to the franchise.

Not that he can't or won't be it will be difficult to do so because he will have to become an elite, top 5-10 player in the league to get the reputation to be considered as such.

PGs just get that added attention like the way QBs do and as good of a play maker as RJ is he isn't in the same class as LeBron or Luka so he is just a very good passing wing, not a big PG.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

I don't know about their respective ceilings, but I'm betting on RJ being the alpha personality that leads the Knicks into contention. That may be his greatest gift as a player, his will. I think RJ has that IT factor.

Ja dropped 44 in a loss the other night.
I wanna see how consistently RJ can be with more shot attempts per game. 15 isn’t enough.
For people to act like it’s impossible based on their early careers in the NBA is wild. Imagine calling how Giannis career was going to be based on his rookie year. Not saying RJ will be Giannis franchise player level or maybe he will but just stating an example.

Dude has elite driving traits at the age of 20 (younger than Morant). And his mentality is that of a leader and wanting to always improve and be great. At his best, if he’s not a #1 option, he’s a #2 like Pippen.

I think they will both be franchise type players. It’s a reason

The real question should be, “Will IQ end up being better than LaMelo?”

Not statistically. But yes, he will have a better career.

I see a Pippen type career. We need to get him an MJ.
