Re: Killian Hayes
He's a rookie. Many people tend to get excited with preseason where regular rotation guys are not playing their usual minutes.

True, they should probably give up on him now, cut him, and sign a G-Leaguer.

Re: Killian Hayes
Collin Sexton was according to 538 the worst player in NBA history
Then next season Darius Garland took that title from him.
Now they both look really good. Lets cool it with judging these guys right away. Hes got tools and needs patience.

Re: Killian Hayes
Rookies are usually not good NBA players. Guys like Ja Morant and Luka are the exception not the rule.

BI also was a terrible rookie. Sometimes people gotta give these 18-20 year old kids a chance to grow. it's up to the franchises to be patient while also giving them the tools to succeed and grow.

This can be a teaching moment for all the new posters here at RealGM. This is a bad take for a myriad of reasons.BoogieTime wrote:SOUL wrote:A rookie.

1.)This NBA season started quickly, minimal training camp, covid situation.
2.)It is this rookies third NBA game. This alone should make it obvious that having any kind of take of a players ability is suspect at best.
Young players need time to learn the league, and its ins and outs.

Re: Killian Hayes
The only thing that really concerns me is most guards in this league can get anywhere they want on the floor and he doesn't seem to be able to do that. He can't get into the paint very easily, which is why he relies on his step back way too much. It's legit night and day watching him and then watching Rose come in and simply just penetrates wherever the hell he wants to. Curious to see how he grows throughout the season.

There can’t be general first impressions? So I guess we shouldn’t know Anthony Edwards is going to be pretty nice?
You can get a general feel IMO, but it’s not set in stone

Re: Killian Hayes
Way to early to judge him obviously, but as someone who saw lots of his games in in Ulm (Germany) last year I will say this:
Expectations were way to high for this kid from the beginning, IMO mainly due to totally wrong scouting reports, too.
I couldn't believe my eyes when The Ringer's mock draft had him as high as number #1, comparing him to D'Angelo Russell citing his great shooting abilities when in reality that's one of his biggest weaknesses.
He actually was never a good shooter (even with the shorter line in europe).
His playmaking was very overrated, too. He single handedly cost his team games due to turnovers in europe, ball movement greatly improved when he left the team (during the restart).
He certainly has lots of upside on the defensive end and shooting can be improved, but people that were expecting him to be a franchise player could be in for a rude awakening.

Surprised he's starting ahead of Rose tbh. Make him earn the starting role by showing he can hang with the backups first.

I would never trust a NBA PG prospect who can only dribble with one hand.

Re: Killian Hayes
He is really young, and has to develop his right hand, it will be a rough year. Still think he's going to be very good.

I'm not sure if Killian will have a great NBA career just yet, but boy if he does it will be great dredging up this thread.
Rookie is a rookie.

If this was LaMelo we would already have a daily LaMelo bust thread with people pushing for it to be pinned. Every other rookie that trashes it up meanwhile gets a pass.

Kobe was 6 months younger too.BoogieTime wrote:RaptorPride wrote:BoogieTime wrote:
Preseason too.
Normally big time ballers show signs during the first 6-7 games, they don’t wither.
Just like Michael Carter-Williams and Kobe
Kobe was competent his first year, like almost all serious players.
Hopefully Killian builds on his 2nd half tonight

He is also a foreigner who plays in a foreign country for the first time. If you were sent overseas as 19 year old, I would love to see how focused you would be. Like I said I wasnt very high on him, but writing him off because he looked bad in 3 games is pretty wack. Most rookies, even ready ones are net negatives anyway.

Re: Killian Hayes
2020 was a rough draft and people will look back dumbfounded in a few years. Bad rookies will at least shoot 40% from the field while having a negative impact on the court. Non-NBA players shoot under 40%.
