Or Maybe Thibs goes all "new age NBA no defense" and decides to roll with Randle\Obi, in which case, it's either goodbye Mitch, or bench player forever Mitch.

Then again, lots of good teams have had pretty good players come off the bench and get big minutes
I think it makes more sense Obi becomes Randle off the bench. You can have depth. And it seems unlikely this year that Toppin becomes ready to be a starter with even less prqctice time this year.

I get that for this year. But any pick also needs to be looked at in the context of several years down the line.
This is in the scenario that Randle plays himself into "Knicks want to keep" contention, or if that was their plan all along.
Or, they simply liked Obi as BPA and figured he's a hedge against Randle leaving and would figure it out later.

People also forget Randle lost his grandmother in the middle of the season. Looks like he’s in a better head space.

He is learning what it is to be a first option and no longer seems to be caught up in justifying his contract like he was last year.

I liked Randle's game as a Laker and a Pelican. And now that he isn't trying g to be Kobe maybe it is for the best he sticks around.

I also want to see this board if it turns out Mills was right. (Which I think he was with Randle)

Thoughts on the maturing Randle?

Thibs and the coaching staff got Randles head on right.

The issue with Randle is that the only way for him to help a team win is to have a positive impact as a featured guy.

He can't be a role player or a support player because he's not a floor spacer on offense and he's not a good defender. The lack of either skill makes it impossible for him to be an impactful role player.

Ironically, the same goes for RJ for now. They're actually quite similar as players, although RJ has a higher upside as a defender and as playmaker and he plays outside-in which theoretically puts a little less pressure on his scoring efficiency.

But Randle has to score efficiently (he can) and make plays for others (he has the ability) when he has the ball to be a good player in this league. The only pathway for him to be a winning player is that he becomes an All-Star who can put up 23-25 ppg on .57 TS% or better.

With the way he's played so far, I now think the Knicks need to carefully evaluate him under Thibs before making a trade. Maybe he's on the verge of breaking out. But we need to see those numbers start translating to wins.

Assuming they don't trade him at the deadline or on the draft day or anything, you can rest assured he will be brought back for year 3. they aren't going to burn 4 million just to get rid of their most productive player especially when you consider we have infinite cap space and nobody who wants to play here

Hopefully he can shake off the No Handle Randle, Dubious Handles, Spin Cycle nicknames.

Maybe the Knicks will be able to get a 1st rounder for him before he turns back into a pumpkin.

Can OP or a Mod fix the title to save some confusion on the 4 million thing?

Screw that. Let's get one for selling Julius, and 1 for taking on someone like Buddy Hield with the salary opened up 8-)

You say screw that then propose a scenario that includes it?

This thread is about Randle so that is who my comment addressed.

Not sure why a Knicks fan would want Hield and his 4 year $80mil plus contract when Burks is giving better production on better %s for a 1/4th the cost and is off the books this summer...it would have to be an unprotected or very lightly protected 1st but is Sac really going to do that?

It's more reasonable to think a contender would have a use for an improved Randle and give up their late 1st rounder to get him in hopes it pushes them over the top. It's not a prayer that Sac is stupid enough to give up a pick just to trade Hield.

But yea... we can wish for a 1st rounder in every transaction.... even when Rose takes a dump he'll get a pick out of it!

I did change the thread title and put a note in the OP to better clarify what the team's options are.
