Randle and Payton...Keep or trade them

Post#1 » by Nbabrothers » Sun Jan 3, 2021 5:30 pm

With the way Randle especially has been playing I am remiss to say that I’m changing my mind on trading him.
Also, Elfrid looks like he’s playing to keep his starting spot as well.
If they continue to both excel and we are winning games should we still look to trade them before the trade deadline for draft picks or a player or two?
Should we trade one and keep the other?
I’m actually at a crossroads but leaning toward keeping them both more so Randle.

By the way, Austin Rivers is such a great signing. I used to say that he was garbage, but he’s proven me wrong in this small sample size so far.

Can't trade Elf cause nobody wants him.

Trade elf now. Hold onto Randle and then reevaluate later.

Trade 'em both. Randle's blocking the path of Obi Toppin, and Payton's just ass. He's absolutely ass.

Who voted to trade only Randle? I’d like a good explanation why you would keep Payton over Randle?

I agree with you that Randle is blocking the path for Obi but it’s just so difficult to either trade or bench him at this point because he’s been playing so unselfishly that’s leading to wins. He leads the freaking Knicks in assists!
I would somehow put Obi in the starting lineup probably at small forward and see how they play together.
I definitely want Obi to start and play 30 mpg but just have to figure out the rotation. Julius is making things very difficult.

Nah, keep Randle and pick up his option for next year

Obi could use a couple years on the bench to develop

That is why we drafted such a young prospect, after all. He's pretty raw so he needs time before he's ready.
BaF Lakers:

Darius Garland/Cory Joseph
Klay Thompson/Shaedon Sharpe
Keldon Johnson/De'Andre Hunter
Evan Mobley/Tari Eason
Nic Claxton/Draymond Green

Bench: Leonard Miller, Jett Howard, Markquis Nowell, Kennedy Chandler, Day'Ron Sharpe

Rather decline his option which will pay him $4 million, and resign him to a small 2 year contract if that's the case, also unless San Antonio is going to throw the bag at him, who else will give him a large contract after this season?

What I noticed with Obi is his maturity. He’s just happy to be playing in the NBA and the icing on top is to be playing for his hometown Knicks. He doesn’t mind coming off the bench. You may be right. Having him come off the bench and learning for this season and next would definitely benefit him because there will be less pressure on him.

Being 22 doesn't mean he can't be raw :dontknow:

I can't see why Payton cant be our bench PG eventually. The way he plays with Randle gives me hope he would play well with Obi off the bench too.

Payton off the bench would solidify our point guard rotation. I would start Quickley and have Elfrid come in for him.
Honestly believe he would be the best bench point guard in the league.
Same with Randle.

They wont trade Randle if he continues playing like this. I think Payton should be traded if he builds value

Oh man, I hope so. The only thing that can happen is that if Randle and Payton come off the bench and we are winning throughout the season I would hate for especially Randl to request to be traded. I hope he buys into it.

this. i would trade him but he probably has no value.

I can go either way on randle. If we get a Morris-like haul back for him I can't be mad. If he continues to play great and stays for year 3 I won't be mad either.

At some point you have to build a floor. If these guys are our floor then keep them. Eventually the Knicks will f8nd a guard to play over Payton. That's likely Quickley. But Quickley has to develop a bit before being handed the starting position.

Randle is your star until you sign a better FA or Toppin and RJ pass him. The free agent market for 2021 is pretty bare so maybe we get one and there are two mid level stars.

I wouldn't get rid of either until you need spsce or there is a worthwhile trade.
