Re: Tom Thibodeau
Thibs is a solid coach and a prove coach that even with his out date style of play will turn your team into a playoff contender.Did it with the Bulls,Wolves and possibly even the Knicks this season. His down fall was two fold, first not have a great relationship with the people behind the scenes in the organization and not respect what those folks did for the team. This was somehting Jim Peterson spoke on after Thibs firing. The second was the all or nothing gamble on Jimmy Butler,it worked out for a season and then it blew up the next and when you basically push your chips in on a move like that and it back fires your pretty much finished.Even in high sight I still would have done the samething that Thibs did bring in Jimmy but instead would have pushed harder on trading Wiggins over LaVaine.
As far as Saunders goes never was a fan to begin with and think he was mainly hired as he's dirty cheap as a coach as were still pay out for Thibs and also to try and playcate the fanbase by having Flips son as the coach.
Highly doubt Saunders makes it through the season and if so will be fired soon after,no way is he coaching this team next season.

With Thibs that was his team. A team ruined by the mistakes he did just to be a treamdill team and make a few playoffs appereances at best.
To be fair, that's ok with me.
As pathetic as it is... the Wolves have been THAT bad... for THAT long... that being average is a pretty big deal.
That's not ok when back in 2016 / 2017 we were the team with the best assets of the future in he entire league at time.
Even guys like Kyrie wanted to come here.
But those assets turned out to be fool's gold to some degree.
The point of the Butler trade was that even with Butler... the Wolves still had TWO max contract guys. It wasn't like the team was completely banking on a one-year window. The plan was to have it all... win now with Butler + Gibson + future growth from Towns and Wiggins... only they'd have gained legitimate playoff experience.
Unless you think Zach Lavine + Wiggins + Towns + Dunn were a perennial playoff team, how did that Butler trade really set the franchise back? Even though it ended about as badly as possible... it broke a 13-year-old playoff drought and left the franchise with two max contract guys in their primes.
The Wolves ditched one max contract guy... for another max contract guy... and we're still told the team isn't close. How many other teams have so many problems winning even 40% of their games with multiple max guys?

Set the franchise back for years and mentioned several times back then was to go from being a desire destination to spent our all cap flexibility in Teague and Taj Gibson in 2017. While dumping Rubio for pretty much, nothing.
Don't forget also the terrible draft picks in 2016 and 2017.
We are actually doing the same thing this season. The importance of cap flexibility is huge with teams that are not ready to be relevant right away.
You can't improve, you're stuck.
The only thing in favor of Thibs narrative as GM was the part of him wanting to trade Wiggins and not Lavine, but everything else was a disaster.
"The Wolves ditched one max contract guy... for another max contract guy"
You're wrong, the Wolves ditched an overpaid player for another overpaid player while paying a premium price.

Thibodeau was a disaster. His horrible drafting and the way he handled the Butler fiasco and lowered Kat’s value in the process. Of course Glen is a horrible owner and didn’t help either with his love for **** wiggins.

The "set the franchise back years" excuses some really bad play from some of those prized assets.
1) They made the playoffs. The 1st time in 14 years.
2) What top-notch asset did the team lose in the Butler trade that would have turned the Wolves into a playoff team? LaVine? Dunn?
3) Wiggins was regarded as the 1A top "asset." He sucked balls. That set the organization back more than anything. And now, trading him for Russell and potentially a super high draft pick may cost the Wolves more years.
4) Rosas told the fans that the team needed to be rebuilt. And that it would take years. That team he said that about was 32 - 37. Meanwhile, his draft picks have been HR swings, including moving up in the draft. Why? Because it's the smart move (for him) to lower expectations and buy himself more time waiting for one of the HR swings to connect. We've seen this act before. No franchise has seen this act more often than Wolves fan. But we keep buying the Promise of Hope.
5) The Wolves have gotten significantly worse since making the playoffs. Butler. Thibodeau. Wiggins. Rosas. Towns. Russell. Taylor. Take your pick on the reason(s). There are many.

Lavine and Murray (and could have had Mitchell as well with Markannen pick) dumbass thibs passed on Murray despite being a better three point shooter and younger than Dunn.

Here's a question. What would have Thibs done since had he not been canned I wonder. Maybe if they just stripped him of the GM duties and brought someone in for that (other than Layden). Do you think he would have quit or stayed? Would Rose still be here? Where I wonder would he have drawn on Vet talent with a few of those Bulls reruns finding retirement age? Wiggins still here?

Well, wasn't it more a known thing that the Bulls preferred Dunn? They ultimately didn't like Wolves first offer on draft night and made Thibs wait a year but still got that deal done. So really he was choosing Butler over others in that draft.

Our first ever coach Bill Musselman was our best coach ever and got more out of little talent than any coach ever.
And he had one of the all-time great nicknames, "Musclehead"

I’m pretty sure Thibodeau liked Dunn as well. I’m not sure I buy that Thibodeau drafted Dunn with the intention of trading him a year later.

You don't buy it? I am pretty sure it was reported predraft that was who Bulls wanted and that Thibs was targeting Butler with whoever they wanted drafted. His intention was get trade done the day of the draft or right then, not a year later. The delay stemmed from who the team was willing to add to Dunn, also reported at the time. Hey maybe all the reports were fake...idk.

It's a difficult choice.
In one hand we have the only coach that led the Wolves to PO in 15 years, with a wide and successful career in the NBA.
In the other one, a callow coach that have done nothing to earn the job, with a shameful record as a coach. Example of a bad nepotism case.
Yes, a though one.

The only issue I have with Thibs is his GM abilities and his constant barking during games. If you're at a game or they have the mic's setup in a way that picks him up, it's really annoying.
Otherwise, he knows how to win as a coach and get more out of what he has to work with, Ryan Saunders does not.

Saunders wolves are also missing their better Julius Randle. They are also missing their most active defender, and they are also lacking big men. The Knicks roster is also older, has more experience playing together and they are in the east.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

Funny how they're going to make the playoffs (or barely miss out) and then miss out on drafting a good prospect from a deep draft. So glad we have other teams that are sorta being run much worse than our team #schadenfreude

Give the Knicks a few more games to predict if they are going to make the playoffs, come on.
Is the Knicks... They are in a good momentum but they aren't that good.

How is this even up for debate? If you take the GM aspect out of it, one has a proven track record as a coach, the other has a proven track record of being a son.
