If he doesn’t become a good shooter that’s pretty much it for him living up to his draft picking. Still gotta be patient tho. He’s shown that when he’s right he can knock damn 3s in a bunch. He’s just messed up right now. Not making the right decision or shot choice when he attacks the rim. Teams are giving him that mid range pull up and he tries to force it all the way to the hoop when it’s not there.

Ima say he’s made some changes to how he approaches situations and is gunna need time to work out the kinks. Had a couple of games where it was working and games where it’s a nightmare. I’ll be patient.

But right now he definitely got the Knox energy from last season where your like “ is he the worse player on the court” lol

I also think playing him this many minutes is a mistake. Bring him along more slowly.

Intriguingly, Knox is playing better both on O and D than RJ. And should be starting ahead of him.

Just pack the starting line up with whatever shooters you have and heaven help the hindmost (second unit) - aorn with Burks/Frank etc out:

Starters (play > 36min a night each for thibbs) Mitch-Julie and perm 3 from 4 of Knox-Rivers-Quickley-Bullock
Second string: RJ, One of K-R-Q-B, Noel, Payton (never have on court with Randle on pain of firing the HC), Iggy

Facts. Folks might not wanna hear it. But RJ is hurting this team on the offensive end right now. Maybe worst than Frank. At least Frank knows his limitations.. RJ just keeps shooting even tho he can’t...

they both are...but RJ does more on the floor then Payton does and you have to give Barrett the mins to improve also. Id straight up bench/cut Elfrid. Need to be able to hit 3pt shots as a guard in this league. Its a joke watching us play against a zone.
Rj is a guard. And how much more does he do than Payton?

I hear you, but I feel like it's better to underplay than overplay guys and I've said that before. With Mitch I think we depend on him for W's so maybe he's an exception to my rule.

RJ needs to be sent down to the gleague to work on his shooting. This is unacceptable of a NBA player.

Would you trade RJ Barrett, 2021 Dallas FRP, 2022 and 2024 FRPs of the Knicks (both unprotected) for Beal? I would do it in a heartbeat.

There is no point, because Jordan was a top 10 player the moment he first played, so what is there to be patient with?

Have you met us? We'd have found something to bitch about & convince ourselves that he didn't deserve a second contract

i was an early and rather vocal critic of the RJ pick (wanted to trade down or into this upcoming draft), but eh, from my low expectations he's not a lost cause at all. he's a lot better team defender than i gave him credit for, especially on the effort and decisionmaking stuff.

he's obviously not going to be an offensive hub, but as a downhill secondary scorer he could do somethings against second units or paired up with an elite creator in an offense with spacing.

my original concern was that he was incapable of generating efficient offense on the ball, and has no off-ball or secondary role because of the bad defense. remove the bad defense and he can be a positive nba player.

He's well on his way to certified bust status. He'd have to have a miracle shooting form transformation in the summer. I wouldn't even bring him back after his rookie contract at this rate. Year 4 and out, just like frank and dsj are about to be.

This dude is not or should have never been the third overall pick. Bust City, how do the Knicks is wind up one pick before a superstar.

How long does it take for a player to reach the next level? RJ is currently in his 2nd year. I'm wondering if 5-18 numbers is all we're going to get from him. He reminds me of Wiggins. I wanted Knicks to draft him but I wondering how patient should I be.

Should stay away from Canadian players going forward unless it's deadpool.
